The Boogie Board will be hosting a Listening Party on November 5th, 2007 with Canadian Blues musician, Charlie A’Court.

Charlie is a 28 year old indie singer/songwriter/guitarist, out there playing gigs and making a living like so many other independent artists. He has done some touring in the States and Europe, and has shared the stage with groups such as John Reischman & The Jaybirds, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Harry Manx, Colin James, Mick Taylor, Dave Hole, Sugar Blue, Procol Harum, Dan Aykroyd and Ron Sexsmith. He will be opening for the Marshall Tucker band in Spindale, NC on November 12, 2007.

Charlie is the recipient of many music awards including East Coast Music Awards in 2002 – Best Blues Artist, and in 2007 – Best Pop Recording

“What?” you say! Blues and pop? Charlie has been quoted as saying his music is “adult contemporary with blues leanings”, and by a reviewer from the High Country News in Blowing Rock, NC as “blues-tinged soul pop”. (Source – news articles from Charlies website, linked below.)

One might wonder whether this meets the criteria to be considered “Modern Whomp” ? Does it? You can decide for yourself.

The party will get started around 7:30PM Central time, and Charlie will be joining the party in progress to talk with us about his music, and answer your questions. You will be able to listen to selections from Charlie’s current album, “Bring On The Storm, and well as jewels plucked from his first album “Color Me Gone”.

In addition, Whomp Radio will be broadcasting Charlie’s two independent releases prior to the party on Monday afternoon, 1:00 to 3:00PM, Central time, with repeat broadcasts during the party, and on Tuesday, November 6th, also 1:00 to 3:00PM Central.

Remember the time will be 8:30 PM eastern

Hope a lot of people do this - - if it is successful there will certainly be others.
Also   KraftR    has worked hard on this and would be very appreciative of your support.

See KraftR's own information here- - -

And here is the link to Whomp Swamp for your convenience - - -

Amy, I brought over a new link -

for anyone that has fought with the " links to nowhere"  - - - after fighting with this myself I think I've figured something out that may be of help to others with "link woes"   Grin

I've found that if you copy and paste a whole piece the links don't always come along intact - -  when it happens it is because what is showing isn't the full link - just a "shorthand " version of it - -
I've solved it by going and getting the links seperately using "copy shortcut" instead of just "copy "

hope this helps someone else
thanks for correcting that! Smile
Bumping - - - please consider doing this folks - - should be a lot of fun
The party was a success hope some of you were lurking.

Charlie A'Court is an amazing singer/songwriter/musician and has joined my short list of artists I can listen to any time.  Have been through both of his albums now and there is not one song I didn't like.

My personal favorite comment from him tonight

Tuesday, November 6th 1:00 to 3:00 PM Central time
Saturday, November 10th, 7:00PM Central time
Sunday, November 11th, 7:00PM Central time

He is also a very good songwriter - his lyrics are clever but "real".  Would love to see him and Taylor collaborate on something.  KraftR has posted most of his lyrics in the Listening Party thread here

Charlie stayed for a long time and answered questions as best he could in a fast moving thread.  He will be back to do some clean up in the new thread AmyH and KraftR are setting up.

Well thanks everybody, especially Kraft, Amy, Evancol. Thanks for making me feel so welcome in this community of passionate music lovers. It has been a real honour.

And thanks to everyone for asking some great questions.

I must be going but I wan't to leave you with one thing. In today's world of new technology bringing us new music there is a cycle of empowerment that is created when artists and fans connect to make exciting things happen. Tonight, we made something amazing happen and the seeds have been planted.
God bless and good night!!!

LISA

Hi Lisa
Mine haven't come yet, I got a "bunch" for gifts and knew he wasn't shipping until he got back from Denver this weekend.

Do you remember Bob saying he played with Charlie at the Winter Sports thing at Big Rock in 2004 ?   Would love to have them both do something here next year - - geesh, I seem to be talking myself into a job don't I  Fear
Charlie A'Court opened for the current incarnation of  The Marshall Tucker Band this past weekend and of course that sent me down a flashback rabbit hole.

"Can't You See" - 1973    Chose this because it has a good write up for you to read while listening.

Taylor did this song with Outformation last year in Asheville -

at a club called Stella Blue -  the night before the Christmas Jam.  It is in the jukebox at TMS  - - song names are in alpha order - - just scroll and click on it.   [do not have to be a member ]

Some other MTB songs you might recognize
Heard it in A Love Song
Fire on the Mountain
Every Day I Have the Blues
Running Like the Wind
I think AH and Lisa (and friends and families) should organize the first annual Presque Isle folk and blues festival.

Build it and they will come.
(which is a movie quote, if anyone is still playing that game).
