I'm taking guitar lessons and I am wondering if Taylor has any
sheet music out there for his songs that he has written?I'm interested
in his acoustic stuff as I'm getting to the point of learning chords and
playing some simple songs.I would kill for some sheet music of his.w00tbounce

P.S. I can not wait for a meet and greet to ask him this.Shy
I will call him ...wait I can't find that number anymore.I am really
serious about this.............Grin
Couldn't find anything except DIMYP - - - griz had put that up quite a while ago on Boogie - am guessing if there were anything else that she would have found it - she is a great bloodhound !

Lots of piano arrangements out there for DIMYP but these also mention guitar chords - -

difficulty rating of 5 on a 1 > 6 scale - for some reason that makes me happy   Smile

Who are you taking lessons from btw ? ?
Maybe you could PM Stephen who could find out for you? I think
I saw some sheet music waaaaaay back but not sure where. Will
try to look back...

There is this kid on GoFish or YouTube that sings a lot of Taylor
stuff with her guitar. Maybe you could look her up and ask her? Highfive
I've looked from time to time, and the only thing I've ever found is DIMYP.
Back in the 70s, a lot of albums got published in sheet music, now not so much. If you're Billy Joel or Bruce Springsteen with an ample catalog they'll do a collection of your stuff.

there is a website sheetmusic.com (others I'm sure).
If I was home, I'd look to see if there are sites that print lyrics and chords. There are tons of lyric sites, I suspect if they included chords the copyright police would get a bit annoyed.

If Taylor gets enough original songs on the next CD, we could at least encourage "Modern Whomp Publishing" to produce a song book of the Taylor originals.

This could be a good topic to start at THHQ....

Excellent idea Margaux.

Think a lot of experienced musicians just pick up the music from listening. Don't ever remember seeing DH's band rehearse with sheet music for a cover. They had something when they were learnng an original. Have watched guitar and piano players sit and listen and just start playing around and then voila ! - there it is - of course it takes a lot of practice to perfect it . . . .

Sort of relate it to my aunt who could go into a store, try on a dress she liked, look it all over, and then go home and make it w00t

You are right on, AH. Many excellent musicians don't even read music. I think I remember hearing that Taylor was one of those, but I could be wrong. Bands will have "charts" which outline the various instrumental parts, including 8 to 32 bars which are blank and just say "sax solo". In other cases, someone records a "demo" and the band members just figure out their parts from there.

I would find it interesting to talk to someone like Brian Less or Loren G about this whole process.. how to translate a studio recording into a live band performance.

Wow, you are right full of great ideas today !

Did you lurk on the Charlie A'Court party ?
If you didn't then go over to Boogie and get a feel for the concept.
Then come back and post what you think of it as a concept  - -
Note - all the jukebox links are broken - all you will see now are the lyrics.

Thought :

What about doing a listening party with Brian Less ? ?   Loren might be harder to schedule maybe ?  Fro some reason just seem to think this would be a better fit for Brian but  - - -

With either could use a mix of their music and Taylor's music and having him posting along in the thread.  Could give some prepared Qs in advance so he could have longer answers ready to paste.  Then do a Q & A from people in the online conversation.
This could be fun.  KraftR would probably be willing to contribute what she learned from Charlie's.

I really need to retire  Sad

I would be SO in for that! Smile
AH: A listening party or even just a Q+A with Brian Less would be way fun.
If I get a free evening, I'll scan the listening party with Charlie A'C.. as it was a weeknight, I was afraid it would run too late and I wouldn't want to leave.

Shall we all write to Milt and ask him to offer you a lucrative severance package?
We could win megabucks and buy a place sorta near the Maine coast with a barn that could be converted into a concert hall, like Carol Noonan's.. you and liz could run the food and beverage dept, the rest of us would book the music..
