RE: Doobie "Doghouse" Wilson, a.k.a. professor Alan Lane was so intriguing that I just had to take a run down the rabbit hole and go check him out on mp3.com
Doobie and Taylor Hicks at the Oasis Bar (summer, 2006)

The title song from his album One More Time is about The Oasis and mentions Taylor btw.
This is the link to his album One More Time - - click on the titles to see little interesting little comments from him about the songs. You can just listen or you can download one or all for free.

The Guitar pull is not Lane's only "American Idol" connection. He entered his song "Morning Sun" in the "American Idol" songwriters competition earlier this year. The song did not win, but that did not slow Lane down.
From his blogs on mp3.com :

Well, I am quite aware that I am almost twice the age limit for American Idol. But the songwriter contest was my big chance. Judges picked the 20 best songs and the public voted online for the best song. Can you believe that out of 10,000 entries that they didn't pick "Morning Sun" (just kidding!) The finalists sang the winning song "This Is My Now" tonight. My family's unbiased opinion is that my song is way better, but what can a songwriter do? You can listen to it right here on mp3.com for free! I'd love for you to download it and tell me what you think.
Well I like Morning Sun better than This Is My Now but then I would have liked the alphabet song better than TIMN
- - seriously though - - while he probably isn't going to set the music world on fire - I found his songwriting interesting enough to download the album for future listening.
