If this is true and not a spun story, he's more of an idiot (not any less musically talented) than I previously thought. Why would you want to push your fans away...
I've never been a Prince fan but it seems like he's biting the hands that
feed him.

Can you imagine Taylor doing this? I can't, by any stretch of the
imagination. w00t Let's hope he never goes this route! Shy
Couldn't care less about Prince - - for me the biggest worry in this is that YouTube is being hit from several sides at once - -

This is an older article about Prince suing YouTube and other online sites - considering his very public battle with Warner a while back - this statement sums up the situation rather well don't you think ?

The irony here is that Prince has now sided with the big record labels. They've been to known to sue music-sharing sites too.

There has been a deluge of stories - all with pretty much the same POV - ego driven stupid/crazy - this one touches on the mess with the video of the baby earlier this year - -  and further points out the irony of Prince being the one to be doing this

And would guess this fan's blog entry is representative of prevailing feelings
Egomaniac Prince Sues Fans

So my suggestion is to go ahead and write your thoughts out now, because the only thing left is when he starts restricting anyone from writing about him unless it’s approved by him first. As stupid as it sounds, that’s the only step left in restricting fans from promoting him. What a complete egomaniac. I have never seen an artist push so many fans away like this. This is truly unreal. It gives you a whole new perspective of what Warner Brothers probably had to put up with and I NEVER thought I would come to their defense. I have been a huge fan of Prince ever since Dirty Mind and embarrassingly enough have seen him in concert over 25 times, but I’m slowly beginning to wonder if I’ve made a very big mistake following an artist that has such complete disdain for me and others like me.

I love so many groups/artists but Prince has always been a huge turn off for me. Sure, I liked some of his songs when I was younger but couldn't stand his videos or live performances because he was (A) extremely feminine and (B) so full of himself. He must have spent hours looking at his bare ass in the mirror and thought...."I'm gonna get me some ass-less pants for my next TV appearance....they'll love it as much as I do!"....remember that one?!?!
GAG ME!!!!

He is a talented musician but I wouldn't spend a dime on him because he is so arrogant. If he were just a freak (like Michael Jackson) I would consider buying his music but once you act so superior....forget it.

DITTO Highfive

You know Andrea...I think you just put into words everything that I wanted to say.

You do know that Brian Gallagher worked for Prince for awhile.  I'm sure he has some very interesting stories (and probably would be sued if he told any  Haha )

I do think his musical story is interesting, since he grew up in Minneapolis, as a multi-racial teen, in a town that had NO urban music on the radio. As a result he was much more influenced by rock n roll -- including Jimi Hendrix -- than most African-American artists of his generation.

When he first started playing in Minnesota, he was heralded as the next Michael Jackson. I think I recall there was some mis-representation as to his actual age (he wanted to be thought a prodigy). And he's always had mystery and weirdness in his story.

I do really enjoy his music, though there are aspects of his career and personality I don't admire. During one of his last tours, I cheered him for promoting "real music" with live instruments, which is definitely not the current fashion.
I do know about him working with Prince for some time....my comments were my personal opinion of Prince....no offense to saxy Brian. Wink

LOL, I agree! Prince has never been one to really interact with anyone, and I don't think cares one way or another what his fans or anyone else thinks. He believes his music stands alone....which is right where HE'S going to be if he continues.

We have a friend who is a stunt man, and he and another guy did all the motorcycle riding on Purple Rain. (our friend Brad did all the stunts) He said they couldn't even get near him. He said he wasn't rude, but was a perfectionist and stayed to himself.

I liked some of his early stuff, but it got too "out there" for me, when he changed his name to that symbol "thingy".

The YouTube guys were on Oprah, and they say that where they get around a lot of that stuff, is that whoever takes the vids, OWNS the vids, and as long as the owners post them, then it's legal. (I HOPE I didn't misquote them)
