Some of you may remember a thread I started that led to a discussion about pre-mature gray and the stigma for women in particular.
I received Anne Kreamer's new book Going Gray and chapter 13 is called "It's a Guy Thing Too"....and sure enough she mentions Taylor in detail!
Quote from Going Gray:
" A big deal was made about the prematurely gray-haired thirty-year-old Taylor Hicks winning American Idol. During Hicks' initial audition, Simon Cowell told him he would never make it to the final round--because, Cowell said, he just didn't look the part of a young pop singer. But in the event, Hicks' hair perfectly complimented his Joe Cocker-esque geekiness, and the voting audience found that total package--awkward mannerisms, slight paunch, gravelly Alabama voice, and gray hair---refreshingly authentic. The gray, which visually differentiated him from everyone else who had ever appeared on American Idol, gave him a competitive edge."
IMO the key words here are refreshingly authentic.
