Say what you want about Elvis Aron Presely, but there is one thing that holds true--he was the ORIGINAL American Idol! His music, his sound, his look has influenced everyone from John Lennon to Faith Hill to Aretha to Michael Jackson and everyone in between! There are many, many others in between, but I do believe that most performers pay homage in some way to Elvis. He had that sweet soulful mix of rock, blues and gospel.
And to not forget our dear Taylor, some of my favorite AI performances of his were Elvis tunes--"Jailhouse Rock" and "In the Ghetto".
We miss you, Elvis--its sad that you have become a "joke" in some circles. (And we know that you were turning over in your grave when Lisa Marie married MJ!)
Happy Birthday to Elvis! One of the things I threw in a gift bag for
Taylor were some ollllllld 45s including an Elvis one. I was never a huge Elvis fan until recently and now I seem to be playing more of
his stuff. It started a little before that interview, but the interview added
to the interest. He truly was a legend!
One of my gifts to Taylor was an original 45 of "Love Me Tender" it came from my grandfather's juke box. I had it framed, but with a way for it to be un done, in case he wants to play the thing or put it in his new club opening in 09***
Both my husband and mother are HUGE Elvis fans, so I am always reminded by them when his birthday comes around (plus my hubby's birthday is 2 days before Elvis). I was never a fan until I met my husband, but he has converted me over the years.
My favorite Elvis song is "In the Ghetto" so I was thrilled when Taylor did it on AI. Another favorite of mine is "Memories"..and I would love to hear Taylor do that one. Anyone else have Elvis favorites that Taylor should perform?
