Diane's is better!
Sorry this took so long - between Taylor concerts and the dang job, I can't find time to eat or sleep, let alone type this thing in a timely manner!
South Yarmouth, the Cape – Day 1
The day started with a morning ferry ride across the Long Island Sound, sitting in the sun. I got to my friend Lori's house in Worcester before she got home from work and hung out with her daughter, Kylee. Kylee gets a phone call and tells me to listen to the radio. All of a sudden, I hear the DJ say, “I understand that Diane wants to hear Taylor Hicks sing 'Heaven Knows', so here it is. Enjoy your weekend on the Cape, Diane.” I couldn't believe it! Lori had arranged it and what a fantastic way to start the weekend!
Grimsby let us stay at one of her rental houses on Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, which was about 10 minutes from Hyannis. It was a lovely 3BR house with lots of room and a fireplace in the LR. I had a pretty bedroom with ruffles on everything. We talked to Grims until after midnight and then went out to find some dinner – but nothing was open – not even a 7-11!
Cohasset – Day 2
In the morning, Kylee and I went to town to get groceries (but no grits) and then went to the beach, which was pretty. It was a perfect day – sunny and blue skies and breezy.
We got some sun and then Grims came over and we took off for Cohasset, about an hour and a half away. We stopped at Plymouth Rock so I could feed my history obsession. The rock is not too big and there is a portico built over it, so you couldn't get near it.
We saw the Mayflower but were pressed for time so we didn't go on it.
We missed the pre party and went straight to the South Shore Music Circus and checked everything out and met some really great people from the New England Soul Patrol. The venue was a huge circus tent with seats around a circular stage that revolved.
At first the breeze came nicely through the flaps, but it did get hot during the concert. We went to dinner – I got sushi and the others got pizza. Then back to the venue! Is Lori excited that she is about to see Taylor? :D
We saw Boogie walking around and talked to him a little. I told him that he was a joy to watch and hear and I had taken a great video of him and Taylor rocking in great synergy in Westbury and he said to what song? I said – Rocking Pneumonia and Hey Pocky Way and he said they didn't do that song often, but he liked it a lot. And guess what song they played first at the concert! Yes! Our seats were a little disappointing at first because even though we were in the third row, we were in front of the orchestra pit and higher up than the rest of the seats. On the other side, the seats were right up against the stage. But we soon realized that even though we were a little removed from the stage, we had an outstanding view of Taylor as he moved around the stage.
The concert at Cohasset was amazing! Taylor was on fire and gave us more tags than we had heard yet! He was happy and talkative and smiley and his voice was strong. He appeared rested and sang for 1 hour and 35 minutes. The stage revolved and he was great about making sure he was hitting all sides of the arena, even when the stage revolved away from you. We got to see Felix on drums and Brian on sax on the edges of the stage instead of tucked away in the back and that was nice. Everyone around us was from the NESP and we all rocked together.

I have practically no pictures since I took mostly video. Here are two pix.
Mr Grims took this picture from across the stage. Felix had just done a blistering drum solo and Taylor came over to him and bumped fists. You can see me with my arms in the air clapping and Linda all the way over to the right.
Caroline Lyders was standing, then sitting on the floor, in the orchestra pit in front of us. She is tiny and very pretty in person. For the last two songs, she got up and was grooving to Taylor's music and even doing a little head banging.
After the concert was over, we hung around talking to people. Stephen didn't have much merchandise due to some “disaster”, but he did have this little Soul Patrol harmonica keychain that really works for $10.
All of a sudden, Taylor came out in a red T shirt. He was behind this counter and was going down the row of maybe 50 people signing things. But the great thing was that he was talking and saying something to each person. Lori yelled, “Awesome show, Taylor!” and he beamed at her with real pleasure, shook her hand and said, “Glad you liked it!” When he got to the person next to me, he signed her CD and said, “Thank you for coming tonight. It's nice to meet you.” When he got to me, he signed my set list from Kris and said, “It's nice to see you again” and smiled at me. When he got to the end, he came back down the row again and did the same thing. He was happy and relaxed and not rushed a bit. A funny thing was that Bill Will was holding up this teeny flashlight over Taylor's head. The place was lit up like daylight already! We weren't sure if Bill was joking with everyone or just on autopilot!
We talked to Brian and headed home later that night.
Part II on the Hyannis thread!
