With all the talk of American Idol,I remembered something I read in the Vibe article about Taylor's defining moment on the show. Here is what it says :

Best perhaps was Hicks version of Elvis Presleys " In The Ghetto " It was a vivid, inspired performance.Hicks owned it,clutching the song tight,as if to shield it from the cold. It might have been the defining song of the whole Idol season. It was also the moment that balanced out his equally memorable stage antics.A true showman with a honed sense of his own stage personality,he rarely hid from his eccentricities, especially his signature dance which he'd been cultivating for years .

Jon Caramanica describes that moment beautifully ! Anyone else agree with him ? If not what would you say was Taylor's defining moment? For me it was when he sang " Trouble " Heart that performance blew me away with it's intensity !ThudWoohoo
The way Nigel and the rest of the Idol gang are treating Taylor...it will BACKFIRE on them...Taylor is a true gentlemen...and will out live them all...in more ways than just living...Smile
Singing on the floor and giving it his all after Simon's negativity the
week before had to be up there among the defining moments. I loved
it-he just did it his way, had a ball, and didn't play it safe to kiss ass.
One of my favorite Taylor moments Grin I couldn't wipe the grin off
my face Grin

When he did You Are So Beautiful that was another. I've never really
liked that song-too overplayed or sappy or something. However, he
made me get all teary eyed with his version and changed my feelings
about the song. Kiss
The defining moment for me was his audition. I was captivated from that moment on and couldn't wait for the next episode to be aired in hopes that they might show a glimpse of the "guy with the gray hair". Soon after, I learned his name and that was it. From the Top 24 all the way through to the finale, I was his, hook, line and sinker.

Trouble was the first performance on AI that I had ever tried to find a download for online. After that, I went back and downloaded all of his, and went out and bought Ray Lamontagne's CD.
keeping with the topic...my defining Taylor moment...was the moment I saw him sitting there by himself...with no one around for moral support!!! I became Sally Brown looking at Linus Van Pelt in his pumpkin patch...then when he opened his mouth...Oh my heavens. But I was moved to tears when the man sang You Ssssend Me...I cried!!! I had not done so with any other person...since the days of Donny Osmond and his equally talented brothers. Taylor has a gift...he does not sing to the crowds...he sings for the one person on the otherside of the camera lens...
So true Barbie! It often felt like he was looking me directly in the eye.
Sounds absurd, but he connected even through a TV screen. When
you get that effect at the live shows Thud
UHadMeAtWooHoo.........I love Taylor's spunk too,he goes with the flow and doesn't let anyone get him down ! If he does it never shows !

amyrebo.....I had never heard of Ray Lamontagne before Taylor sang Trouble. He's introduced us to so many great artists !

Barbieflausa........Taylor is so charismatic that every person must feel he is singing just for them.He has an amazing ability to know what his fans want !
My defining moment was also PTFMWB.. when Taylor made it clear that he would fearlessly do whatever it takes. American Idol has never been the same, Taylor broke the mold and played the game better than anyone before or since, and (it appears to me) took the prize on his own terms.

Someday he'll be far enough away to tell the whole story.

You took the words right out of my mouth amy. That's exactly how it was with me.Smile

I got hooked right from the get go at the audition-my interest was definetly sparked...

I was under his spell when he sang a bit of "The First Cut is the Deepest" (on group week?) I couldn't believe the voice on that man!....
and then when he did Levon! That was a moment for me, when I was really impressed!
