I have Dish satellite set up to record all the new Jools Holland shows and am always happy to see a new one waiting when I check the receiver.  It was a good mix as usual  - - Wilco impressed - - there was a clip shown of the Traveling Wilburys DVD - -   Bloc Party- eh- still not interested - - and then

someone new - to me at least  - a guitar playing, blues singing, no nonsense woman that made me sit up and pay attention.  In her chat with Jools she said she was heavily influenced by Muddy Waters - joked that he should be her father.  I'm believing her !

LISA - - note the guitar playing part - think you will like her  Smile

I don't know why I didn't know about Joan Armatrading before but am very happy I do now.

She has several songs, a couple videos and some pictures on her MySpace so it's a good place to start.

And then there is this little tidbit - -  puts her in the company of one of my very favorite artists -  Keb'Mo' - of course he has a few wins under his belt too Wink

BTW - Into The Blues is my favorite of the songs on the jukebox.

“Into The Blues is the CD I’ve been promising myself to write for a long time. Recording it has given me so much pleasure and playing blues guitar…, I adore it! I hope you will love listening to these songs with the kind of enjoyment I had making them.”

AH - I don't know why you haven't heard of Joan Armatrading either.. she had some hits in the late 70s.. I'm glad to hear she's still making music! Thanks for the links!
I just discovered that my Fuse music channel carries the Jools Holland show! Unfortunately, it's on afternoons at 1 but now that I know this, I might actually catch one.
Hmmm flipping through cd collection awe here we go found her.
AH I'v got her self titled one with OMG Love and Affection (my fav.)
Down To Zero,Help Yourself,Water With The Wine I be more than happy to burn one for you.Wink I'm shocked you had never heard of her this brings to me to ask you have you listened to Tracy Chapman?
I remember a friend of mine way back being a huge fan of hers, and
have heard her name with some good musical company over the
years. Just can't place the songs. Will listen when I have time to
refresh my memory Wink

When I started looking at JA's information I realized why she escaped my notice. For one thing up until recently I've always preferred male voices so that's where my attention was focused.  While there were women I liked - I didn't go hunting for them.
Timing is the other problem -  JA was making her entrance exactly when my personal hampster wheel was hitting warp speed. We moved to CT to take on a major project for the company we worked for and I discovered I was pregnant. Not good timing when you need to be working 70 hour weeks for a few months - - music became mostly whatever on the radio got my attention during the drive to/from  work.  Unfortunately life stayed that way for too many years.  Sad

Joan is a very smart lady - - there are a lot of good videos showcasing her talent on the Tube - - can get lost for quite a while ! !
LOVE THIS SONG - - it is one of the three she did on the Jools Holland show too (link is the title)

"A Woman In Love" by Joan Armatrading

Lisa
Tracy Chapman I do listen to a little - usually as part of a mixed artist playlist.  With her it's strictly the song - not her voice that I respond to.  You've probably noticed she can sound quite different - - even on the same song too - here's an example I stumbled over looking for a live performance of this song
