I'm more excited about the pregame than the halftime. Tom Petty's never done much for me. But that's just me...

I used to be a huge Tom Petty fan. Then on my 22nd birthday, I had tickets for his concert, and we drove several hours just to be told he cancelled the show because of illness. Later that night I was watching Saturday Night Live, and there he was! I was mad at the time, and pretty much stopped being a fan (silly I know, but true).
I just can't see that he would be very good as the Super Bowl halftime entertainment. Plus he has a couple of tough acts to follow - Paul McCartney and Prince.
Jordin Sparks? What, Taylor wasn't available? No interest there for me...

She's the current Idol and she's from AZ. Besides, her dad's got NFL ties. This gig was made for her.

I did see Petty in the mid 80s on a tour with Bob Dylan.. that was a fun combination because Petty's band, with the ringing guitars, comes close to the sound of the Byrds in the 60s when they did all those Dylan tunes. The show was at the Red Rocks outside of Denver, which is one of the most cool places to see a concert.

Agreed. I like a lot of Petty's tunes, but he just doesn't have the energy.

The whole thing is a FOX network promo.. the pre-game show with Pauler, Randy and Ryan.. Jordin for the SSB..
On the other hand, the game is in Jordin's home town of Glendale AZ in a brand new stadium, and her dad was an NFL player, so there is some logical connection there. I saw pics on the news the other night from a charity benefit she did with some of the other Season 6 gang, they were cute.
It's all more show business than sports, that's for sure.
