Full Version: Imagine what Taylor is writing about

I have been thinking of the new music Taylor is in the process of creating and it's made me very curious.
The last time, via Gray Charles and VH1, we were privy to the songs on Taylor Hicks before it's Dec. 12 release date. This time we may not have any sneak peek or listen. I know I will be rushing to the car and furiously tearing off the censored security tape to pop that baby into the CD player (in my NEW car hopefully!).

What will it be like? As much as I like the funky side, soulful & bluesy side, yearning side, I also like the way Taylor sings love ballads.
Will there be a song about being on the road or about falling in love or about the price of fame or about heartbreak?
Will there be any covers or tags or notes from old tunes injected here and there?

As far as covers go...I adore the fact that Taylor does not try to sound just like the original....he stays true to the song but makes it his own each time.

Sigh. We have a long time to wait and ponder don't we?

Any thoughts?
I'm thinking it's going to be a mix of styles.Muses work in funny ways he said it depends on the day so I'm predicting a MASTERPIECE I'm sure we will not be disappointed at all.My ultimate wish would be an acoustic one,but don't think it will be this one maybe next.I want to really hear his voice.Heart
Bottom line - - fully expect I will like whatever he brings us - to what degree remains to be seen.
But agree it is fun to play the wishing game so my thoughts are ...........

Taylor is brilliant at bringing his own interpretation to a song - but would personally like this this next album to be all original material - or any covers be relatively unknown songs.
I hope he takes it in a blues & soul direction with his own twist - guess that is my perception of what he means by Whomp music.

There are a few songs from IYT and UTR that would be interesting to hear a new take on - - have believed from the first time I heard it that Somehow could be a "the song" for him - - SOAC has many possiblities and was never used on the tour - -

the version of Heart and Soul billed as Blues and Soul in a live radio performance is wonderful.

I would enjoy at least one song with snark, righteous anger, and thinly veiled references to Clive Davis and Simon Cowell. madDevil
A painfully heartbreaking Loved & Lost song...

Something's that gonna make me cry.
I agree Margaux and Amy....those would be awesome.

I don't know the technical term for it....but I love the sound of Taylor's voice as his own background vocal...either speaking or singing. He did it on TH a few times "that bass drum...." on Soul Thing and a bit on Dream Myself Awake "because". Also when he gave us a slight "huh" after "young crazies".

Anyway...it's HOT Devil and I'd like to hear it on the next CD! Interject a sexy spoken phrase somewhere.
The technical term is "avoiding paying for backup singers" Haha

RotflGood one Mari thats exactly right well said.Smile

Perhaps a having fun song - a tribute to the fans -

Entitled "Seriously, you again?" Haha
Rascal Flatts has a song about the fans...I think it's Here's To You and it's cool.
The lyrics make it clear that they take notice of the fans in the front and in the aisles....the good, the bad, and the naughty! Smile

It may sound corny but if done right with the right tempo/funky sound, a song mentioning the Soul Patrol by name would be interesting.
