Thought it might be interesting to build a list of covers that you think would really work for Taylor that aren't already part of his repertoire.

Doesn't have to be an obscure song but it might be fun to see what we can come up with to surprise each other - - and maybe Taylor Roll Eyes

If you can - please supply a link to music and the lyrics.
One to start with

When collaboration rumors were flying for what became the TH album - Angie Aparo was one of the names - and if there are going to be covers included a personal wish would be for Aparo's "Broken" - - -

This is a link to a live set from 2004 - there is a box top right - double click on the song Broken - I occasionally have to do it twice to bring up the player

Did find Broken on YouTube from 2006 - - think it's a better rendition - seems like a lower key maybe ? - but the amp reverb is a problem

Broken - - Angie Aparo

you are the sun and i'm the rain
everything was beautiful
i am the whisky autumn day
champagne was beautiful

we are hard to handle now
shouldn't seem unusual
still i really don't know how
sun and rain are beautiful

it's all a mystery
you can see what you want to see
it's a fine line between it all
but that's alright, it used to be beautiful

(chorus)
i don't remember the last word spoken
i don't remember anyone's arms open
i remember your face
i remember that place
broken

i hold a white dove in my hand
still you're not embracable
i guess you know we could be friends
if our past were erasable

it's all a mystery
there's a time for everything
and the reason why the white dove flies
and even though she still looks beautiful

(chorus)
i don't remember the last word spoken
i don't remember anyone's arms open
i remember your face
i remember that place
broken

last night on the radio
they played a song to you and me
someone had a broken heart
and someone could not let it be

i don't call you sweetheart
but there's still a time for everything

(chorus)
i don't remember the last word spoken
i don't remember anyone's arms open
i remember your face
i remember that place
broken
I have been on a Beatles kick recently with the discovery of the album "LOVE-The Beatles". It is a remaster of original tapes that were reworked beautifully for the Vegas Cirque du Soilei show.

From the Mirage site, where LOVE is playing...
"A unique soundscape of The Beatles music has been created for LOVE using the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios. The panoramic visual and surround sound in the custom-built theatre at The Mirage will envelop the audience who will experience The Beatles as never before…

The soundtrack drew two nominations for the 50th annual Grammy Awards. The Beatles LOVE album was nominated in the categories of Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Medium and Best Surround Sound Album. Sir George Martin, The Beatles legendary producer, and his son Giles Martin worked with the entire archive of Beatles recordings to create this Grammy nominated soundscape for LOVE."

Now, any of the songs I can completely see Taylor doing. They all have a bit of soul injected in them. Think of "Get Back", "I Am the Walrus", "Lady Madonna", "Come Together." He's already done "Something" on AI, although I would love to see him do that again.

There is one song that I can totally envision Taylor doing--George Harrison's, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." I guess after seeing Taylor perform that acoustic encore in Millersville, I immediately thought of him when I heard this version on the soundtrack.

Sir George Martin used a rare master of Harrison playing an accoustic version when he remixed the version on the LOVE album for Cirque. It's got a very intimate feel to it. He also wrote a string accompniment which makes this version beautiful.

From Wilkipedia--
"George Martin and his son Giles began work on Love after getting permission from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, and Olivia Harrison (the latter two representing John Lennon and George Harrison, respectively).[1] In discussing the project, Giles Martin noted that elements were utilized from recordings in The Beatles catalogue, "the original four tracks, eight tracks and two tracks and used this palette of sounds and music to create a soundbed."[1] George Martin also promised a prize to those who could crack a "code" found in the album.[2]

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two surviving members of The Beatles, have responded very positively to the album. McCartney noted that "This album puts The Beatles back together again, because suddenly there's John and George with me and Ringo". Starr commended George and Giles Martin for the album and said that the album is "really powerful for me and I even heard things I'd forgotten we'd recorded."

So, whether you are a die-hard Beatles fan (Im not die hard), or just an occasional fan, I believe that if Taylor were to perform "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" we would be gently weeping tears of happiness. He would do the song and George's memory justice in his own soulful way.

Dont think of the version that is found on the Beatles albums when it was released. Youve got to hear the acoustic version because its sooooo much prettier:

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
They bought and sold you.

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know how you were diverted
You were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
No one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
Look at you all...
Still my guitar gently weeps.

**I look from the wings at the play you are staging,
While my guitar gently weeps.
As I'm sitting here, doing nothing but aging,
Still, my guitar gently weeps.

**This is an additional lyric that was added to the remastered version.

Here is an accoustic version by a very talented young man...listen and picture Taylor...

I don't have a link to lyrics or the music.

Van Morrison's Tupelo Honey

And if you've got all night, I can list a few more Smile
Amy,
here's the lyrics - working on finding an audio - seems VM has taken even more down from YouTube than the last time I looked confused

ETA again: Taylor sometimes tagged Tupelo Honey into HOAD in the Spring tour - including Myrtle Beach

ETA: can't find anything by VM that doesn't require registering on a site but did find a cover that gives a decent feel for the song - double click on # 8

And there is always my favorite library

Tupelo Honey - - Van Morrison

You can take all the tea in china
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail right around the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Shes an angel of the first degree
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

You cant stop us on the road to freedom
You cant keep us cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor bent on chivalry
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Shes an angel of the first degree
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

You cant stop us on the road to freedom
You cant stop us cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granite
Knights in armor intent on chivalry
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Shes an angel of the first degree
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

You know shes alright
You know shes alright with me
Shes alright, shes alright (shes an angel)

You can take all the tea in china
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail it right around the seven oceans
Drop it smack dab in the middle of the deep blue sea
Because shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Shes an angel of the first degree
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Shes an angel of the first degree
Shes as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like the honey, baby, from the bee
Shes my baby, you know shes alright.....

Theres a rose pressed inside a bible
That she reads on the balcony
Shes sweet in slumber and Ive got her number
For the beginning of the century.

Ill tell a tale of old manhattan
Adirondack bus to go
Standing waiting on my number
And my numbers gonna show.

I heard a tale of old manhattan
Ive never been there but I want to go
Standing waiting on my number
And my numbers gonna show.

Very nice - usually like to just listen without the visual distraction but couldn't stop watching him playing

Can't find the LOVE album at my usual places and too tired to do a major hunt right now - - it will be a challenge for later Smile

The ukulele music is lovely! thanks Kim! HeartHuggy

You may not know that George Harrison was one of the foremost ukulele players and collectors in the world.. When I saw Paul McCartney in 2002, he played "Something" in tribute to George, using one of George's ukes.

I would LOVE Haha to see LOVE in Vegas..

this reminds me of all the discussions when it was revealed that Taylor was rehearsing "an obscure Beatles tune" for the AI tour.. we speculated what it could be, and one reason I *had* to mortgage my future to get a great ticket to that first show in Manchester was so I could be one of the first to find out.....

the OH MY GOD THAT ONE! moment was well worth it.
Some others that were on My list -- Lady Madonna, Oh Darling and my favorite Paul song -- Maybe I'm Amazed
Great thread!! Highfive

I would love to hear Taylor do Maybe I'm Amazed Thud

I'm with Amy, if you have all night I can think of a few. Will try to post
some later on today...
I think I've listed several in another thread. Over in the talk to Taylor section. Smile
Thanks to Amy, I listened to Keith Urban's version of one of my favorite tunes in the car today..

Meet me in the middle of the day
Let me hear you say everything's okay
Bring me southern kisses from your room
Meet me in the middle of the night
Let me hear you say everything's alright
Let me smell the moon in your perfume

Titled Romeo's Tune, written and originally recorded by Steve Forbert, the verses make little sense but the chorus is nice.. up tempo folk rock with a great piano hook.

Steve Forbert is a southern folk-rocker with a raspy voice. When I first heard Taylor's Under the Radar tunes, I heard a lot of Forbert in "The Deal" and "Soul Thing".

Here's Keith's version
