Joel Raymond’s general vision for his Shangri-la Festival in Blue Hill, slated for Aug. 1-3 on the Blue Hill Fairgrounds, should have music fans waiting with bated breath. The actual lineup will be revealed in coming weeks.

“They will be instantly recognizable names,” the veteran arts promoter said of the musicians he is lining up for the three-day festival.

Quote:
As he develops the festival lineup, Raymond is considering artists known for contributions to jazz, folk, rock, blues, Americana, bluegrass and other popular styles.

“You probably won’t see any heavy metal, and you won’t see any opera,” said Raymond, “but you’ll probably see everything else.”

He said the multi-genre European festival model has been highly successful at the Bonneroo Festival in Tennessee and at the Coachella Festival in California. He notes, too, that last year’s Newport Folk Festival featured headliners Emmy Lou Harris and the Allman Brothers Band.

I think I'll be keeping these dates open if at all possible! I can't wait to hear the line-up!

I finally found an update on this at the website - seems he enjoys teasing just a little bit! Wink

A couple of the first artists have been named:

The Infamous Stringdusters

The Infamous Stringdusters represent a new generation of young bluegrass musicians. With Andy Hall on Resonator Guitar, Travis Book on bass, Chris Pandolfi on banjo, Jesse Cobb on mandolin, Jeremy Garrett on fiddle and Andy Falco on guitar, the band pulls together skill and experience well beyond their years. They boast a combined resume that includes collaborations with artists like Dolly Parton, Leftover Salmon, Earl Scruggs, Bering Strait, Ronnie Bowman and Levon Helm. Their Sugar Hill debut, Fork In The Road, was one of the most highly acclaimed bluegrass releases of 2007. It has been praised by fans of traditional bluegrass and newgrass alike, proving that the young Nashville-based band offers something for everyone.

Noticed that you have the Celtic group Barra MacNeils from Nova Scotia in the line up for your new festival.
Very happy to see another music festival being started in Maine.
It is always exciting to have an opportunity to be in on the beginnings of a tradition.

Wondering it you are aware of an artist named Charlie A'Court from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia ?
Learned of this young singer / songwriter in an on-line listening party last fall and we all enjoyed his music very much
I have his CDs and his music is in regular rotation on my playlists.

I am not in any way connected to him, personally or professionally.
I am just a fan of his music and would like to see him performing in Maine
Hope you will take a little time to check out his sound

AH - I thought of doing that myself. You were one step ahead of me. Huggy
Here's an unusual addition (although he's been playing shows in this area for a little while)

Jeff Daniels (Yes, that Jeff Daniels)
http://www.jeffdaniels.com

Jeff Daniels has been writing songs since the 1970s, something most people don’t know because — unlike numerous other celebrities — for most of that time, he kept them to himself. But a few years back, someone suggested Daniels might be able to raise funds for his pet project, the Purple Rose Theater in his hometown, by going out on stage and singing some of those songs. And lo andbehold, it worked.
"I don’t write hits. I don’t send out demos to famous singers. I just write songs. They’re my diaries. I had everything I’ve ever written in this big, black notebook. Some of them were typed, some were in long hand, but all of them had a time and a place that marked some moment in my life. If you really wanted to get to know me, you’d find me in there."
That diary has very funny entries, and it has some surprisingly tender ones as well. His first album kicks off with “If William Shatner Can, I Can Too,” in which Daniels pokes fun at celebrities who try to be musicians. It later describes the joy of being killed by Clint Eastwood in “The Dirty Harry Blues.” Coming to us on the heels of the release of his third acclaimed album, and half a dozen film appearances this year, Jeff is an entertainer in every sense of the word.
Yes, Jeff Daniels was featured a few months back in Guideposts magazine and this whole story was there. If you went to their site at the time you could see clips of him singing. See if this works
