Here's the next act!

Southern Culture on the Skids
http://www.scots.com

Recently described by Dwight Yoakam (in Filter) as "really on the outside, like Dick Dale meets Hank Thompson," SCOTS have mixed high and low culture for decades, endlessly touring, serving up moonshine martinis and poultry picking for fans everywhere. Now, with their new fifteen song covers collection, Countrypolitan Favorites, they've given the Go-Go country treatment to some of their favorite songs, creating a tasty buffet of tunes from Don Gibson to T-Rex. "It's a party record," Miller says. As if anything Southern Culture on the Skids might put on tape wouldn't be a party record. Since 1983, when they formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, SCOTS have played their unique hybrid of Americana, surf, R&B, rockabilly, and swamp pop (the band describes their sound as "toe sucking geek rock – kinda weird, but it feels good when you're doing it"), all the while driving fans into ecstatic, sweat drenched paroxysms of joy. Assisted by his cohorts in white trash renaissance – drummer Dave Hartman and bassist/singer/heartbreaker Mary Huff – Miller and crew have been prolific and ubiquitous for over twenty years

You have no idea what that does for someone who thinks in pictures much of the time

Another act...

Willie Wisely
http://www.williewisely.com

Like many artists in their youth, Minneapolis native Willie Wisely discovered the wonders of rock & roll by immersing himself in the record collections of others. After developing a taste for British Invasion power pop, and glam rock excess, Wisely submerged himself in the thriving mid-'80s northern music scene that spawned such pivotal acts as the Replacements and the Violent Femmes.
His latest album, the seft titled "Wisely",is his third release under his name. The artist teamed with co-producer/drummer Petur Smith (The Januaries, Jason Falkner), and calls upon contributions from Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney), Joshua Grange (Dwight Yoakam), Rick Boston (Low Pop Suicide), Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm (The Soundtrack Of Our Lives), and Ludwig Boss (Boss, Ray Wonder).
Jenna Fischer, from NBC television's "The Office", is a huge Wisely fan (they became close while Wisely was scoring Jenna's self-directed/written film Lollilove). Jenna stars in the video for the album's first single "Through Any Window", which has led to huge awareness and acclaim for Wisely's music.
I didn't recognize anyone in your blurb except Jenna Fischer, but I was scanning Mr. Wisely's blog and found something VERY interesting. Such a small world....

12.16.2007 : 11:36pm : Laurel Canyon, CA
JUST ANNOUNCED!: We're launching the new album with the Los Angeles-based Wisely band, at Hollywood's vibey singer-songwriter venue, Hotel Cafe. Joining me onstage will be special guest Rusty Anderson (guitarist for Paul McCartney), Joshua Grange (pedal steel and guitarist for kd Lang, Dwight Yoakam, Mandy Moore), Loren Gold (keyboardist for Hilary Duff and Taylor Hicks), Petur Smith (drummer for Jason Falkner & Rusty Anderson) and bassist Lucas Cheadle! If there was ever a Wisely gig to fly in to see... this would be the one!
Well that's certainly interesting. And definitely a ringing endorsement if I ever read one! Smile Thanks for pointing that out!
Another act is up -

Tim Krekel
http://www.timkrekel.com

Tim Krekel is an American original. He’s dedicated himself to creating music that is a real testament to life, love and, mostly, rock & roll. Tim’s gifts to the music world are plentiful. He has a warm, personal vocal style and has perfected his own distinctive guitar style. He is a master craftsman of songs that "get across with fire and conviction and without a trace of pretension". (CD Review) Tim’s approach is straight-up rock & roll and nothing short of phenomenal. Rolling Stone said, "Krekel unleashes a monster riff".
Tim’s songs have been recorded by artists such as Rick Nelson, Lonnie Mack, Jerry Reed, Dr. Feelgood, Shakin’ Stevens, Canned Heat, Kathy Mattea, Jason & the Scorchers, Vern Gosdin, BJ Thomas, Delbert McClinton Aaron Tippin, Deana Carter and Kim Ritchey. Many artists have had great success with Tim’s songs. Crystal Gayle had a number one hit with Turning Away in 1984. Patty Loveless also went to number one with You Can Feel Bad, a song Tim co-wrote with Matraca Berg and that also earned Tim a BMI Country Award in 1997. Cry on the Shoulder of the Road, another Krekel/Berg penned tune was a chart topper for Martina McBride.
Margaux - neat find on Loren !

Not sure why I didn't start this doing this before now but think this catches up to the list so far - - -

Southern Culture On The Skids - - Earthmover
Chuckled a lot sampling this group

Willie Wisely - - Parador
Had a hard time picking out just one video for this guy - - recommend sampling more of his work

Tim Krekel - - Can't Cry Anymore from Jammin at Hippie Jacks

Tim Krekel wrote Patty Loveless' "You Can Feel Bad" - it's a favorite of mine.

An interesting addition to the festival:

Shangri-La-Cinema
The Shangri-La Outdoor Cinema will host a continuous stream of films, games & more. Running from 11pm to sunrise all weekend, we'll present films & shorts ranging from music-themed films (like The Talking Head's True Stories and Disney's Fantasia) to classics (like Lawrence of Arabia and Mary Poppins), as well as obscure gems (such as the BBC's Look Around You and Japan's epic Battle Royale). Each morning at 5am we'll be broadcasting historic news-reels and morning news shows from decades past until the sun takes over.

Special events also include a classic arcade game tournament on the big screen, starting sunday at midnight, featuring a variety of games such as Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros, Frogger, Tetris, and others.

(Super Mario Bros on a 25' screen - very cool!!!)
Tree By Leaf
http://www.treebyleaf.org

Honest to God local music! Led by Tree By Leaf, one of regions premiere harmony-driven folk-rock groups and featuring numerous local musicians, friends and you! Sing-along and join part in this contemporary celebration that will take us to the roots of music with one of New Englands best song-writers, Garrett Soucy.
From The Phoenix's review of their album, There is a Vine: Nearly every song here deals with humanity’s relationship to God. Right from the album’s outset, the rollicking piano and raucous drums of “Over and Under,” Garrett wonders, “what is delusion?/What is devotion?” And these are questions to which he won’t offer easy answers, just interesting ways to say, “let’s talk about it,” like, “On the end of my cigarette, I’m gonna build a fire/And then we can burn this language down through the telephone wires.”
