The Shangri-La Outdoor Cinema will host a continuous stream of films, games & more.

Wish they'd run I'm Not There and some other music based films.

I actually heard "Southern Culture on the Skids" on XM radio this morning -- the channel called "X Country".. loud Dick Dale style guitar, full speed ahead. This would be a fun band.

Juana Molina grew up in a musical environment where her father, a revered tango singer in her native Argentina, taught her guitar from the age of five.
Following the military coup of 1976, Molina's family fled the country and lived in exile in Paris for six years. Once back in South America Juana rose to stardom throughout the Spanish-speaking world as a comedic actress. Returning to music and abandoning acting at the height of her success in the mid 90's was no easy feat after her years on TV. Her passion and commitment to music prevailed however and worldwide recognition began to grow.
Juana Molina is not easily classified though - as her music blurs lines between simple categorization. The press agrees, as NPR"All Things Considered" praised her, Entertainment Weekly named 'Segundo' "Best World Music Album of 2003," and Juana received a Shortlist Award 2004 nomination.
Praise began pouring in from admirers in all corners ranging from David Byrne to Will Oldham.Tres Cosas (2004) was placed in the "Top Ten Records of 2004" by The New York Times. Her music features elements of folk, ambient and electronica, and she is often compared by critics to Björk, Beth Orton, and Lisa Germano. Juana's live performances combine live loops, effects created on-the-fly and her deft acoustic guitar playing creating a lush sounding as well as visually compelling experience.

Josh Ritter

While his name might not be on the tip of everyone's tongue in his homeland, folk-leaning singer/songwriter Josh Ritter has benefited from numerous positive reviews and a loyal fan base. Born in Idaho, Ritter bought his first guitar after hearing the Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash classic "Girl From the North Country." While attending college in Oberlin, OH, Ritter got his first listen to Leonard Cohen and Gillian Welch. He fell in love with the songs instantly and dropped his neuroscience major in favor of the pursuit of music. With classic folk venues like Club Passim, Boston was the place Ritter chose to follow his dream. He recorded and released self-titled debut in 1999, but it was 2002's Golden Age of Radio that got him noticed. Selling copies on his own funded touring, which funded more albums and so on. Signature Sounds Recordings soon picked the album up, gave it exposure on a national level, and the four- and five-star reviews started rolling in. The HBO series Six Feet Under grabbed a track from the album for their end credits, while Ritter received an offer to open for the Frames on a tour of Ireland. Soon his single "Me & Jiggs" was in the Irish Top 40, a headlining tour of the country was sold out, and a tribute band named Cork was playing nothing but Ritter material in numerous Irish pubs. Back home the following was growing with sold-out shows in New York City and Boston, and throughout America.

I'm bringing this festival back to the top of the heap.

Especially after I read this in the paper today...

Right place, right time.

That’s the lucky formula Joel Raymond intends to follow as he organizes the inaugural Shangri-La Music and Arts Festival on Aug. 1-3 in Blue Hill.

Raymond, a concert promoter from Ellsworth, has added music legend Steve Earle to a robust lineup, giving the Shangri-La plenty of “oomph” heading into Maine’s busy festival season.

Earle, a maverick singer-songwriter known as much for his outspoken political views as for his blend of rock, country and blues, joins jacked-up bluegrass punks the Avett Brothers, zydeco master Terrance Simien, rockers Southern Culture on the Skids and others on the first-ever festival lineup.

I guess my next decision is do I want to go on Saturday or Sunday because I'm not sure I can swing both days...

Let me know what you think you want to do - - this might be doable for me.
Trick might be finding a hotel room.
Wish they would put up a performer line-up by days like most do - - shifty

Josh Ritter is one I would definitely want to see !
Will see about doing a jukebox for him.

Regular Concerts schedule

Richard Thompson, July1, at the Camden Opera House would be a very good one but am already doing the GPN show in Skowhegan June 27 so suspect that another disappearing act so close would not be met with great enthusiam around here Grin
The guy really is a legend though so could be worth it. Will have to check out what he sounds like these days - sometimes it's best to leave things alone.

Harry Manx in Sept. might be interesting too. Have listened to some of his work.

Found several of Josh Ritter's concerts but decided on this short set to give people a feel for his music.

From the comments apparently it was short due to being rained out
Subject: Rain rain go away
What drives a taper to stand out in the rain to capture a moment in time for the benefit of unknown music fans - you think it could be LOVE?
Saw Richard Thompson about 10 years ago at an outdoor festival, sitting way too close, just after John Lee Hooker, and before we were nearly trampled by the mosh pit. He was everything I'd heard he would be. Err in the side of going to see him.

Just saw that he will be in Lowell at their summer music festival, will get that info and post it before I forget.

Steve Earle is also fantastic, but definitely has his point of view -- I guess if you've done hard time you're entitled. If we weren't doing the NYC thing (if we are in fact doing it), that could get me up to Blue Hill. Maybe this would be more fun than New York.
