I think it's very interesting how an artist's influences will manifest in their music. You can tell by his strong songwriting skills that Taylor was raised on 70s songwriters. His jamband background shows up mainly in his shows - the ability to weave songs together, throw in "tags", etc. (However, I enjoy his "extended versions" a lot better than traditional jambands like WSP, Phish, Grateful Dead, etc.) He's not a copycat of anything, which I think is his greatest strength. He just writes good songs and performs them energetically.
That right there I think is the magic of Taylor.

You know, I never knew what a 'jamband' was until recently (thanks to you-know-who). I'm still learning...
OK - I need to get some work done here if I intend to leave early tomorrow!!!
(But you know I'll be back...

Am in total agreement. Had a discussion with someone once about Taylor being a sponge - -
it was more interesting and slightly more intellectual than it sounds
And think it would make an excellent blog topic - can't wait to read it.

Thanks Amy.. Make sure to listen to both tracks 15 (Just Kissed My Baby) fine harp and tagging
and 16 (Use Me).
I suspect that when Taylor gets truly in "The Zone" he's not in conscious control of how or what he sings.. channelling the muses. There may have been some mind-altering substances involved as well.
