From a "New Age" motivational blogger who uses Taylor as an example of how to succeed by remaining authentic, even though he was a "gray-haired, slightly out of shape, average looking 30-year-old who can’t dance, with a voice that Simon described as 'bad karaoke'.”:

Quote:
Here’s what Taylor did to create his meteoric rise (and what you can too): he was simply true to himself. Taylor did it his way. He didn’t dye his gray hair, he didn’t stop trying to dance, he didn’t give up his unique style of singing, and he engaged his audience with his passion for performing. He was outlandish, fun, and unique. People couldn’t help but respond to his incredible charisma.

My point to the business owners was that creating success isn’t about doing things “right,” it’s about being yourself. When you are true to yourself, doing what feels good to YOU, rather than following tried and true “rules,” you can’t help but succeed.

Even though we know Taylor is in much better shape, much better than average looking, and has a fine voice, the blogger appreciates his passion and charisma. It's a fun read.

I especially like the part about how he created a following like no
other Idol has had Huggy

This was a good read. It's so true, many times in life when you break
the rules or go against the popular way of thinking you get better
results. I've tried this with my real estate website and the customers
really like it because it's "different".

Even if someone competed on Idol and won using the "safe" strategy
it wouldn't even feel like a true win as it wouldn't have been
authentic. The way Taylor did it raised the bar in the competition,
IMO Highfive
He created that following because he was different and he appealed to everyone who wasnt perfect, or who didnt fit in, you know? Thats what I appreciate about him. He knows his audience and who he appeals to...let the naysayers say what they will, but we are true fans of his music and his soul.

No, he's no angel, but he never claimed to be and hell, thats what we love about him. You can just have a good time with him and his music.
I've said it before and it bears repeating.....it warms my heart to read what you (all) have written about Taylor. Huggy I feel the same way as you know. I am extremely happy to know others who love him as much as I do. Others who get him as much as I do. Others who saw something VERY special on AI and have continued on this ride that is Taylor Hicks fandom. Others who think he is truly amazing and are inspired by him. Others who LOVE the way he dances. Others who don't think I am nuts for doing what I now do in the name of Tayor and do not tell me I must be going through a mid-life crisis mad.

I simply love the man who he has brought me much happiness, incredible music, lots of laughs and more!
I need a fix soon!! ermm
It is easy to conform to what others expect, and difficult to be yourself. I know I have run up against this choice several times in my lifetime, and will likely face this choice again. Taylor has made some good choices in this respect, not sure if he has done everything "his way", but he certainly has stayed truer to himself than many others. Maybe the other changes are simply part of his evolution into this new life that the AI fame has brought him.
