UHadMeAtWooHoo's thread on Jack Johnson reminded me of his cover of a song that Taylor had a short solo part in during the group encore at the 2006 Warren Haynes Christmas Jam. I would still love to hear Taylor's full cover of I Shall Be Released and there have been a few of us who have posted that plea "ad nauseum" for a long time.
Heard Jack's cover when a discussion of the Endless Highway album took place on GC last year. If I remember correctly it received approval as an example of a good compliation album - - the implication being compilation and good are more likely to be incompatible descriptions.
. . Endless Highway is a compilation album done as a tribute to The Band by an interesting mix of artists.
And according to the liner notes there are also some hidden players who appear on each song.
For example Ray LaMontagne, (Trouble) plays harmonica on Guster's cover of This Wheel's On Fire.
In case it has slipped someone's mind The Band backed Bob Dylan, but also recorded on their own and developed their own following.
