Two of my all-time favorite male artists drop disks this week.. I almost stopped by Best Buy to pick them up, but then I remembered the NESP benefit if I buy them through Amazon!

Now that I've made the links, I'm about to click on them. Michael McDonald's disk can be downloaded through Amazon, so I'll even get instant gratification.
I'll have to wait for Jackson, but I think I'll manage. Once I've given them a spin, I'll post my opinions...

Alicia's Post (with new ones added as I get the links done)...

Warpaint by The Black Crowes

Their first CD in 7 years! Wow has it been that long. I really like The Black Crowes, they have some of the best lyrics, great beat and a sweet rock sound. Amazon doesn’t seem to have a lot of information or samples for this CD. I got to hear this before it was released, don’t tell anyone, and it rocks. (Alicia)

Float by Flogging Molly

Just in time for St. Patrick’s day, what ever day they switch it to, Flogging Molly rocks! That is if you like Irish/rock music, with their unique style of Irish, Punk mixed with good old fashion rock n roll. They fall in the same category as Dropkick Murphys. I wish they played this type of music at the bar on St. Patrick’s day instead of the straight off the boat stuff. Actually this is their first album in 4 years since their first singer went back to Ireland, wish he would have taken me. (Alicia)
I'm going to have to sell some more houses! All of the above look
really cool Cool

I know what you mean about the Irish music. Roll EyesA little goes a long way, and I love St. Patty's Day Heart

Solo Acoustic, Vol. 2 by Jackson Browne

I’m not a big Jackson Browne fan, I did grow up with his music and some funny stories about him. But I liked this CD, it was hard to get a feel for it just hearing 30 seconds. The songs are live from various concerts over the past few years. In fact he’s playing at Merrill Auditorium in Portland on April 3rd. There are intro tracks mostly of conversations with the audience, I hear he’s another artist best appreciated live. (Alicia)

Soul Speak by Michael McDonald

Okay how can you go wrong with this CD, there would have to be something the matter with you. This CD is a follow up to his 2 Motown CD’s and has lots of great classics. Amazon has sample tracks check them out. Some great songs like "Walk on By" by Dionne Warwick, "Into The Mystic" by Van Morrison, "Living For The City" by Stevie Wonder, "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley and more. There are some of my favorite songs like Hallelujah, it’s interesting to hear someone else do a song you love. But no one can sing this song like Jeff Buckley in my mind. (Alicia)
Go Away White by Bauhaus

Well if you like the punk glam rock sound from the 80’s this is for you if not just skip to the next one.
They have a sort of Ziggy Stardust kind of sound mixed with a little hardcore punk. It looks like these guys have been around for 30 years taking breaks every now and then they have come back with their first album of new material since 1983. This is their last album before they retire. Not bad for a last go, I think I’ll be getting this one. (Alicia)

Transnormal Skiperoo by Jim White

This CD has an interesting sound, again hard to get a good feel just hearing 30 second samples. It has a country, blues, soul and folk feel, slower in some areas and faster in others. Oh and I heard lots of harp. Originally from Florida he now lives in an old farmhouse in the backwoods of Georgia, some of his music has that back woods kinda feel to it. Worth checking out! And a great cover too. (Alicia)
Alicia’s picks from last week:
___The Orchard by Lizz Wright Genre-Jazz
This is the pick of the week so far. I saw it at Starbucks of all places and asked the guy about her, he had no clue so it went on my list. I love sound, she moves from jazz to soul smoothly. A sound that reminds me of Jill Scott. There’s a video where she talks about putting together the album. She took photos from her hometown and made a slideshow to a Tom Waits song. I’m a fan! The photos are beautiful, please check her out. This is on the top of my list. (Alicia)

___Stax Does the Beatles by Various Artists Genre-R&B/Soul
How can you go wrong with this one! First off it’s from Stax, second it’s the Beatles and third it’s only 10.99. We all know our Soul Man Taylor wears out his favorite Stax shirt, I wonder if he’s already bought this album? Well if not then I am. Tunes sung by Otis Redding, Booker T and Isaac Hayes just to name a few and all Beatles music - cool. (Alicia)

___Little Voices by Sara Bareilles Genre-Pop
I heard Love Song on the radio the other day and liked it. Sound is very pop and I’m sure you’ve heard it before. Her music is very catchy you’ll find yourself singing right along. Amazon has a great video up, she’s singing and just play the piano. It made like her more, I might have to check this one out too. (Alicia)
Wow these look great. Thanks for the help. There were lots of cool stuff out this week.

Find this very interesting.

Stax is definitely making a big push to get their vintage music out there.
Did you happen to notice the huge number of Stax related albums Amazon has listed ?

Coming back from our NESP Massachusetts weekend I made my usual stop at Starbucks in Bangor
There was a Stax compilation album being featured at the order counter.

Soulsville, U.S.A.
Stax Classics 1965-1973

Starbucks must have made a deal for exclusivity because Amazon only has it available as second market
