HI EVERYONE
GOT SOME GREAT VAN MORRISON, CAN'T STOP NOW CD WHICH IS SOOOOO GOOD.I'VE ALSO BEEN REALLY GETTING INTO STEVE FORBERT HIS GREATEST HITS,SOME MARCIA BALL HER STUFF IS SUPER GREAT PIANO AND HORNS.TRY SOME OF THESE IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY BOUND TO GET YOU MOVING.
Shemekia Copeland -- she is hot. We saw her a few summers back on BB King's tour, she was absolutely the highlight of the night.
Steve Forbert -- he should have been better known than he is. When I first heard Taylor's Under the Radar tunes (anyone else remember the link to a public radio station, when I was googling blindly it was the first pre-idol Taylor music I found).. Steve Forbert was one of the first singers I was reminded of.. raspy-voiced southern-fried folk-rocker. His big hit was "Romeo's Tune". If you don't know it, go find it on Rhapsody or ITunes.

Thanks for the heads up Margaux - - enjoyed his Rhapsody catalog
What Kinda Guy ? made me laugh out loud - -
maybe it was because had recently seen some questions re: what we really know about Taylor - and therein lies a discussion I don't have time for right now - - sounds like a midnight topic for a hotel room and a bottle of Captain Morgan

And that sounds like a very good idea. Where do I sign up?
Because of GC's blog I discovered Marc Broussard and LOVE him! I had my BF from HS listen to him on my iPod when she was visiting and she said "OMG, he sounds a lot like Jonny Lang!" (never heard of him).
Then someone posted a video of Jonny on GC but it was dark...I thought it was Marc B. and someone set me straight. They really do sound VERY similar but I still like Marc better!

I would LOVE to see him work with Taylor in the future...also John Mayer and Toby Lightman and Sheryl Crow and Bob Seger and lots more. I like it when two artists who I already admire record a duet or write a song together...especially if they both have soulful sounds to begin with.
Yesterday I was in a country music frame of mind. I flipped on a local station yesterday morning and heard "Shut Up and Kiss Me" by Mary Chapin Carpenter. It's a song that I love and and sort of forgotten about. That got me thinking about picking up a greatest hits cd of hers if one existed.
I drove into Bangor yesterday morning and they had a 2 hour Alan Jackson in-depth program about him and his music to which I listened to for a bit and they played this song. It, of course, made me think of Taylor. (There isn't much that doesn't in this day & age.)
Artist: Alan Jackson

Title: Midnight In Montgomery
(Alan Jackson/Don Sampson)
Midnight in Montgomery, Silver Eagle, lonely road
I was on my way to Mobile for a big New Year's Eve show
I stopped for just a minute to see a friend outside of town
Put my collar up, found his name, and felt the wind die down
Then a drunk man in a cowboy hat took me by surprise
Wearing shiny boots, a nudi suit and haunting haunted eyes
He said 'Friend it's good to see you, it's nice to know you care'
Then the wind picked up and he was gone
Was he ever really there
'Cause it's midnight in Montgomery
Just hear that whippoorwill
See the stars light up the purple sky
Feel that lonesome chill
When the wind is right, you'll hear his songs
Smell whiskey in the air
Midnight in Montgomery
He's always singing there
I climbed back on my Eagle, took one last look around
Through red tail lights a shadow moved slow across the ground
Off somewhere a midnight train is slowly passing by
I could hear that whistle moaning
I'm so lonesome i could cry
'Cause it's midnight in Montgomery
Just hear that whippoorwill
See the stars light up the purple sky
Feel that lonesome chill
When the wind is right, you'll hear his songs
Smell whiskey in the air
Midnight in Montgomery
He's always singing there
He's always singing there
Hank's always singing there
I did venture into Best Buy and bought an Essential Mary Chapin Carpenter CD. She has some great music if any of you have ever heard her before. Passionate Kisses, I Feel Lucky, Twist & Shout...it's a great CD. She's a great songwriter.
Oh...and I heard Clay Aiken while in the mall...as well as Stevie Wonder. I pay very close attention to the music in stores now. I swear I heard Toby Lightman into Marden's yesterday too but I'm not quite sure...LOL
And, I felt like a Taylor music ambassador...the weather was warm so I cruised around the city with his CD cranked right up. It felt good!

some nice listening - - thought folks might be interested since
Spoonful James is Taylor's long time friend Wynn Christian's band.
Wynn filled in for Sam Gunderson Taylor's Alabama Adventure show in Bessemer on 6-1-07
Taylor & Wynn were in a band together when Taylor was going to Auburn College if I remember correctly at this early hour - - I have the band's name "somewhere" - anyone care to chime in ? ?
Thanks for the spoonfuljames Myspace link, AH.
The "Seven Mile Breakdown w/Taylor" was performed in Bessemer last night.
I just heard the most hysterical song on the XM 70s station-
Telephone Man by Meri Wilson
I'm still chuckling!
ETA the lyrics:
I went to my apartment on a Monday at one
A-singin' do lolly, lolly shicky bum, shicky bum
Started movin' in it on a Tuesday at two
A-singin' do lolly, lolly shicky do, shicky do
Wednesday at three I called the phone company, singin':
"Hey baby, put a phone in for me"
Thursday at four he came a-knockin' at my door, singin':
"Hey, baby, I'm your telephone man
You just show me where you want it and I'll put it where I can
I can put it in the bedroom, I can put it in the hall
I can put it in the bathroom, I can hang it on the wall
You can have it with a buzz, you can have it with a ring
And if you really want it you can have a ding-a-ling
Because-a hey baby, I'm your telephone man"
Can you believe that? And then he says:
"Now when other fellas call ya tell 'em how it all began"
Well...can you imagine?
My heart began a-thumpin' and my mind began to fly
And I knew I wasn't dealin' with no ordinary guy
So while he was a-talking I was thinkin' up my plan
Then my fingers did the walkin' on the telephone man
Singin' hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Get it any way you can
Right? Ha ha ha, so...
I got it in the bedroom, and I got it in the hall
And I got it in the bathroom, and he hung it on the wall
I got it with a buzz, and I got it with a ring
And when he told me what my number was I got a ding-a-ling
A-singin' hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Hey lolly, lolly
Just-a doin' my thing
Ha, ha...I've never done anything like this before!
AND, she also did a song called (are you ready for this) Peter the Meter Reader!
Here we go again
I was lying on my back porch just a-getting some sun
Had my hair done up in pigtails had my swiming suit on
I was just about asleep when there came a shadow over me
I opened up my eyes to peek and what did I see-ee
There was a man what a man looking down on me
Tall dark and handsome, six foot three
There was a look in his eyes that was telling me
He knew that there was something that he wanted to see
He said "Hi my name is Peter
And I'm here to read your meter
I'd like to see your kilowatts
Could you take me to your box"
I didn't have the slightest notion where that box could be
But I said to Peter won't you follow me
We went upstairs downstairs inside and out
I just loved having Peter follow me about
He said "Hey what's with you fox
Can't you take me to your box
I came here to see your meter
They call me Peter the meter reader"
By the time he found my meter it was a quarter past four
And he said to watch my heater as he was walking through my door
Every single kilowatt was a-looking just fine
And he'd be coming back to see them in another month's ti-i-ime
So now I'm waiting yes I'm waiting so patiently
To have my sweet sweet Peter read my meter for me
Maybe I should tell you so you'll understand
That Peter used to be my telephone man
Singing hey-laddy-laddy hey-laddy-laddy hey-laddy-laddy
Get it any way you can
I've never done anything like this before...well...
(Think we can write one called Taylor the Ball-Washer?)
