I listened to the radio on the way into work this morning and I'm so glad I did!  They played Tim McGraw's new single "Suspicions".  It's the most non-country country song I think I've ever heard!  I really liked it and I haven't liked a lot of his latest stuff!  It's quite bluesy.

This is not the whole song but a clip about the song -

I'm so glad that I met you baby
I'm so proud when we walk in the room
I know it's crazy to worry like I do
I get this feelin' that I'm losing you

[Chorus]
I get these suspicions
Even though I know that you love me baby
And I really shouldn't feel this way
Ooh Suspicions
I can't help it you're just so good lookin'
I'm afraid somebody's gonna steal you away from me

When I go out to a party with you
You always turn every head in the room
I just know what's on every man's mind
I try to fight it, but it gets me sometimes

[Chorus]

Ooh, suspicions

When I'm with you I feel so satisfied
The way you touch me when you lay by my side
That look in your eyes when we make love
Makes me hate myself for what I'm thinkin' of

[Chorus]

Suspicions
Even though I know that you love me baby
And I really shouldn't feel this way
Ooh suspicions
I can't help it you're just so good lookin'
I'm afraid somebody's gonna steal you away from me
Suspicions
Oh baby Oh darlin'

Cause I love her
Cause I love her

I love her and she loves me
Ain't nobody gonna take my girl from me

Quote:
Cat Power pays tribute to those who inspired her by covering tunes associated with Sinatra, Lady Day, Dylan, Joni and the country music greats. Time will tell if Cat Power will join the pantheon of immortals, but Chan Marshall already ranks with the greatest singers of our generation. She's also grown as an interpretive artist since her first covers record. She breaks your heart on the country number "Silver Stallion," turns Sinatra's "New York, New York" into a slinky penthouse jaunt and even covers herself beautifully on "Metal Heart." She also records like her heroes: live in the studio.

I'm streaming the Cat Power record.. enjoying the arrangements, sounding like the last hour before closing in a cocktail lounge, when they had combos. But I don't get these new women with the whispery voices like Feist, and Chan's singing here.

I have always loved women who sing like they take no prisoners, from Mama Cass to Grace and Janis, Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benetar, etc etc.

The last song is Joni Mitchell's BLUE -- which given Cat's history is most appropriate for her to be singing, but just doesn't measure up to Joni's original version. Now in her prime -- Joni's voice was ethereal and full of meaning and sound at the same time. She's still a damn incredible song interpreter.
