I've gpne back to listening to my faith-based music...I just love singing about and for the one who gave us love...and who is "love crucified arose" from the ancient vaults of Michael Card, John Michael Talbot, Phil Keaggy...4Him, Rich Mullins and Keith Greene....some of the foundation stones who helped create something now called "contemprary christian music"

I love music and words that can uplift and rejoice in good times and bad... Heart

Barbie,
I too used to listen to a lot of those contemporary Christian artists. I've dug some out to listen to again. I have Steve Green, Greg Long, Twila Paris, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, and Philips, Craig, and Dean and a Rich Mullins tape...
Good inspirational stuff!
Yesterday when driving back from Portland, I put in my CD of Taylor's Portland concert that a kind NESP gal gave to me. It really took me back (Amy's solo...the stool...Long Way Home). I SO need a Taylor concert right now!

I'm streaming the Cat Power record.. enjoying the arrangements, sounding like the last hour before closing in a cocktail lounge, when they had combos.   But I don't get these new women with the whispery voices like Feist, and Chan's singing here.

I have always loved women who sing like they take no prisoners, from Mama Cass to Grace and Janis, Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benetar, etc etc.

The last song is Joni Mitchell's BLUE -- which given Cat's history is most appropriate for her to be singing, but just doesn't measure up to Joni's original version.  Now in her prime -- Joni's voice was ethereal and full of meaning and sound at the same time.   She's still a damn incredible song interpreter.

Saw this interview with Grace and thought of your Joni Mitchell comment - the reference is near the end

ETA:   Decided I needed to go listen to Feist since had only a nodding aquaintance with her - mostly checking out things had seen mentioned.  And since I tend to have a little resistence to female voices I thought maybe I hadn't given her a fair shot.  Afraid this one is a "no chance" - I simply do not like the majority of her music in addition to finding her voice unremarkable.
Is it just me or is there a similarity to Corrine Bailey Rae ?  I don't care for her either btw.

But I like Cat Power [Chan Marshall ] - and did from the first time I listened to her which is unusual for me - so go figure
Will admit she doesn't make my fairly exclusive  "listen to everything" group though.  As with most artists,  I do skip past some songs when listening to her if I haven't made up a specific playlist.

I usually play a CD or use Rhapsody and hadn't looked for her on YT but Wow, her fans need lessons - I found no decent video of her in live performance on YouTube - even the produced videos were out of synch or poor video.  If I missed a good one please point me to it.

Today has been a Mary Chapin Carpenter kind of day for one reason or another.

"I Feel Lucky", "Shut Up & Kiss Me" and "Down at the Twist & Shout" have been reverberating from my car speakers.

Today I'm getting ready for work (I have a new group of regulars, young
"old souls" who love singing to oldies and dancing) and making playlists of old disco and smooth grooves Haha

The local paper's music writer is freaking out because he's interviewing one of the guys from this band this afternoon. They're playing at the Garde next week (I guess their myspace listing is wrong?) and I'm thinking... I might go. Blues/zydeco/rock... why not?
