Miss the music talk at GC's so decided to start this thread.
I was usually a "taker" not a "supplier" over there so am hoping others will jump in too but it to get it started - - -

have been listening to Les McCann's music at my favorite watering hole this afternoon
- - if you aren't familiar with the Rhapsody site it works like this
- - you will need to install their player [simple]
- - then you can listen to 25 complete songs - not clips - for free every 30 days
- - or you can subscribe and have unlimited listens - downloads available too

here is the link for Les McCann's Must Hear page - some seriously nice jazz to be had to improve a boring paperwork day
http://www.rhapsody.com/lesmccann/more.html

you should all be familiar with this one on the list -  Compared to What   - couldn't control a yell when he dropped this one on us in Mrytle Beach - think I may have been the only one around me that knew it - my impression was that Taylor was deliberately making the words a little "mumbled" that first time out - testing the water maybe ?

Track # 13 - - this is most likely the version Taylor took his lyrics from

Track # 1 - - but this has the longer heavily cowbell infused intro
this is not a G version  so be forewarned if you are concerned about language - also it is a long intro so if you're not into instrumentals just be patient

Sometimes I Cry and Kaftan are two others you might want to try

Take a scroll around the site while you're there - I find it very user friendly - enjoy !  Smile
Linda, thanks for getting us going on this-I'm more of a taker than
supplier too, but find it interesting. TMS has had some cool artists
recommended that I'd never heard of. Will listen to your links tomorrow and thanks for tip on Rhapsody Huggy

My friend has been making me listen to the Wreckers with Michelle
Branch, and it's a cool CD-a little bit of everything.

I am making headway with my friends Taylorization. We were listening
to cheesy stuff on my IPOD, old disco, etc. etc. and I slipped in some
Taylor new stuff. They picked it out as him immediately, and they knew the words to Runaround Woohoo:woohoo:
I really dig The Killers. Heres my absolute fav lyrics from " can you read my mind" slippin in my faith
until I fall
you never returned that call
woman open the door dont let it sting
I wanna breathe that fire again
she said I dont mind if you dont mind
cuz I dont shine if you dont shine
now put your back on me
put your back on me.
I sooooooo get that.
I'm liking The Wreckers these days. That's the new group with
Michelle Branch. Their harmonies are really great, and the CD is a
mix of all kinds of songs.

Just discovered a guy on myspace who is awesome! Cool

http://www.billyredfield.com his myspace link is on his site. Very cool
voice, great lyrics and sound. He's really young, but reminds me of
James Taylor in a small way. Check it out...I ordered his CD after
listening for about a minute (very unusual for me)
Thanks for the links everyone ! I enjoy listening to different artists, you never know what you may discover you like.I have been listening to The Bee Gees,I was and still am a huge fan.It was such a different sound at the time and is still relavant in todays music world.I also listened to Duets, one and two by Frank Sinatra, there are some amazing pairings on them.On a whole every day is enriched when I listen to music.Heard Taylor at work for the second day in a row. That's progress,I hope it's a new trend.
I'm really liking the new Maroon 5 single! I haven't liked a top 40 song for a little while so this is a big step for me!
Finding James Morrison very interesting.

As well as Paolo Nutini.

this is a really nice piece on Taylor in People's online magazine - - the bit on the young trumpet player Taylor invited to play with the band is included - - http://www.people.com/people/package/ame...06,00.html

one of Taylor's answers from the piece - - -

Quote:
Who would you like to work with one day?
I would love to work with Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Aretha Franklin or Beck. I just love [Beck's] music. It's soulful, he's a real artist with soul."

I had not a clue who Beck was so went hunting and have spent quite a while listening to him today - - am completely fascinated by this artist's music and wonder what he and Taylor could come up with in a collaboration - - think it would be incredible actually ! ! !

his website - very cool btw - can listen to his music - nice mix
http://www.beck.com/

after I got my alert I found it was also being discussed on other sites
credit goes to db at boogie for finding this SNL performance - - hope you like it as much as I do - -

glad to hear you like Beck. If youve seen him perform and his energy reminds me of someone.I have 3 of Becks albums and he is like no other artist out there. He also plays the harp and the guitar. His moves are like James Brown. He is really something! Check out "Hell Yes" by Beck If you like a kickin bass line robots and some harp. Its on youtube but I dont know how to link it.
Beck is very cool...I've been listening to him since the mid-90s. Haven't followed him closely but do enjoy what I've heard.
