I love this stupid "song" but it begs a question - - how do things like this get classified - are they songs ?, comedy ?, both ? or a category unto themselves ?

Hehehe... I should point my dad to this thread, he has a million! And we own that 45... the B-side plays it backward.

I've been thinking about doing a thread of this sort - maybe a one-hit wonders/guilty pleasures type of thing. This almost qualifies. This tune used to get a bunch out on the floor at my high school dances.

AH -- the genre you may be looking for is "Novelty" songs. One-hit wonders is a different (and sometimes overlapping) category.

The all time great collector of novelty songs is Dr. Demento, whose syndicated show has kept these songs alive since 1974, and who discovered Weird Al Yankovic. Wikipedia alleges that the show is currently in financial difficulty.
