Next week's AI theme is songs from your Birth Year. Take a moment to get all nostalgic for 1976 and PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC WHITE BOY, then think about what the AI7 kids should sing...
Here’s the list of birth years:
Brooke White (1983)
David Archuleta (1990)
Carly Smithson (1983)
David Cook (1982)
Ramiele Malubay (1987)
Chikezie (1985)
Syesha Mercado (1987)
Jason Castro (1987)
Kristy Lee Cook (1984)
Michael Johns (1978)
Jason could do Mony Mony by Billy Idol-he needs something peppy and cool
Brooke could do Stand Back by Stevie Nicks-she'd be awesome at
that one
Kristy Lee Cook-She Bop by Cyndi Lauper-how craptastic would that
be?
David Cook-Leader of the Band by Dan Fogelberg-I think he'd knock
that one out of the park
(

What did I do to avoid work before you guys?

)
I remember that night so clearly. I was so proud of him for going for
it and giving it a 100% FU to Simon

I think that was the moment where I went from "I hope he takes this thing" to "He HAS
to win this thing"!!
Some birth year suggestions..
Michael Johns (1978)
Lay Down Sally, Eric Clapton
Baker Street, Gerry Rafferty
Werewolves of London, Warren Zevon
Deacon Blues, Steely Dan
Josie, Steely Dan
Because the Night, Patti Smith (written by Bruce Springsteen)
Fire (sung by Pointer Sisters, written by Bruce)
Time Passages, Al Stewart
for a slow semi-country ballad: Bluer than Blue, Michael Johnson
for an Aussie Tribute: Reminiscing, Little River Band
and for total cheese: Sometimes When We Touch — Dan Hill
David Cook and 1982:
Rock and Shiny Pop:
Centerfold — J.Geils
Shake it Up — the Cars
Young Turks — Rod Stewart
Working for the Weekend — Loverboy
867-5309/Jenny - Tommy Tutone
I Can’t Go for That — Hall & Oates
Rosanna - Toto
Hurts so Good — John Mellencamp
Abracadabra — Steve Miller
Somebody’s Baby — Jackson Browne
Should I Stay or Should I Go — Clash
Dirty Laundry - Don Henley
Pressure - Billy Joel
Brilliant but sadly obscure:
Someday Someway — Marshall Crenshaw
Rock This Town — Stray Cats
1983 — Carly and Brooke
there’s not much there.. what albums did I buy that year? Besides Thriller? What can a female sing from Thriller?
Break it to me Gently — Juice Newton (Brooke and Juice would go together well)
Gypsy — Fleetwood Mac
Back on the Chain Gang — Pretenders
Drop the Pilot — Joan Armatrading
Suddenly Last Summer — The Motels
1985 - Chikeze:
Careless Whisper - George Michael
Loverboy - Billy Ocean
Caribbean Queen — Billy Ocean (I can so see Chikeze doing Mr. Ocean… )
Night Shift — Commodores
One Night in Bangkok — if he can do it, it would be awesome!
Forever Man - Eric Clapton
If you Love Someone Set Them Free — Sting
Freeway of Love — Aretha Franklin
Raspberry Beret — Prince
And for pure cheese
Just a Gigolo/I ain’t Got Nobody — David Lee Roth
1987’s list for Jason:
Agree with a lot of folks on the boards that “Don’t Dream It’s Over” (Crowded House) is the song.
Mandolin Rain — Bruce Hornsby
With or Without You — U2: if he deconstructed it to acoustic
or I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
La Bamba — Los Lobos
Just to See Her — Smokey Robinson
We’ll be Together — Sting
The One I Love — REM
Got My Mind Set On You — George Harrison
Cherry Bomb — John Mellencamp
David A has to do 1990:
I’m looking for songs that are soft rock but not too ballady.
If he would dare do “Opposites Attract” he deserves to be the Idol.
Here are some that he should be able to do:
Downtown Train — written by Tom Waits, sung by Rod Stewart
This Old Heart of Mine — Rod Stewart
Get On Your Feet — Gloria Estefan
Hold On (for one more day) — Wilson Phillips
Club at the End of the Street — Elton John
Oh Girl — Paul Young
And for an “Imagine” redux: From a Distance - Bette Midler
Well considering I went to HS and college within the 80's this week should be interesting and bring back some great memories.....if they choose well!
I listened to a lot of Sting and Bruce Hornsby and U2 and Steve Winwood and Elton John and Genesis in college ( & just after) and watched a lot of VH1!
I was 7 in 1980 - so the mid to late 80s are more memorable. It should be an interesting night, regardless.
Margaux, you had some really cool suggestions. I hope they have
their "peeps" reading over here
