I'm not sure I get the "David Cook is Cocky and Smug" thing.
For one, he has to project "rocker" attitude. As does Daughtry.
For another, he must be going through an emotional roller coaster, between his unexpected success on American Idol (with the accompanying media crap that goes along with success) and his brother's illness, there's a lot on his mind.
His co-idols appear to like him. I sense that he could be an introvert -- I do know that he's one of the smartest guys to play this game.
I agree with you Margaux, I don't see smugness or ego. I agree that he may be a bit shy, but he has confidence in his abilities.
From what I see on news coverage, David's brother Adam has cancer and his brother Andrew really wanted to try out for idol....they went to audition together and David got through but Andrew did not. I saw him in the audience last night. The "AC" on David's white guitar is for his brother Adam.
I apologize if I got any of this wrong....but I think there are 2 brothers with AC initials.

While everyone compares David C to Daughtry, I think of the guy who actually won season 5.
Their stage presence and musical style are very different, but their native personality (shy and dorky) and focus on the prize have a lot in common.
David C really should have a heart to heart with Taylor about what it would mean to win. If TPTB permit the contestants anywhere near him, that is

Seger, as far as I know, you have it right.

My feelings exactly. I was talking with a group of people the other day about David C. and I said I didn't want him to win. They asked if I didn't like him. I said no, quite the contrary, I think he's very talented, and that's why he shouldn't win. I tried to explain, they didn't get it.
In regards to David Cook being smug,I don't get thet vibe from him at all ! The judges were very strange last night and as usual talk from both sides of their mouths. First they tell a contestant that they don't look confident enough, then when they gain some confidence they call them smug huh ? They tell them they need to be different so when they are they're told you had better stick to the other style of singing ! Now I remember why I didn't watch last year LOL! They get on my last nerve.I think that everyone of them did a fine job last night,it may not have been the best show of the season but it was far from being the worst !
I had never heard the song "angels" before, that's a great song! I was really listening to the words.....Like it! I still Like David A, he's obviously going to be a more ballad type singer but his voice is great....
I didn't really like any of the performances last night, Michael when he sings Rock sounds horrible, when he's got the right song he sounds like he can actually sing. I'm a sucker for an Aussie accent so I like him....
And who the heck took Randy's happy pills last night? Damn he was wicked last night! LOL
Gina - please look up the original version of Angels. I think you'll like it! It's much better than David's version of it.
I don't see the smug David Cook either. He's confident with good reason - but I don't see smug. Simon is smug.
Tonight's Idol Gives Back show was HORRIBLE. What a dreadful 2 1/2 hours. Last year's was much, much better. Why do we all have to be subjected to Miley Cyrus? Twice?
