Idol Gives Back is on Wednesday night, so the Top 8 on Tuesday will perform "inspirational songs". Results will be on Thursday.

Any suggestions?

I would love to see Michael try "One" by U2.
And Carly could do a beautiful "Bridge Over Troubled Waters".

Do you think Kristy Lee will try "Amazing Grace" again??

I don't know what week will be Neil Diamond's turn as guest mentor, but I heard a Neil song this morning on XM 60s that would be awesome for Michael: "Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon". Now maybe it would be more age appropriate for Jason or David A, but it's a rock-soul ballad that Michael could handle very nicely.

I don't have time to find the Youtube this afternoon, but someone else -- feel free.
Inspirational song week aka my hour to take a nap.

This has David A's name written all over it...he's done an inspirational song about every week.
I really hope Jason Castro does Get Together by the Youngbloods-
he would be awesome!! w00tbounce

Or he could do one of my tear jerker favorites Heart

Great suggestions Margaux! Highfive
My thoughts from the performances last nite.Micheal Johns needs to focus on blusey stuff he is NOT a rocker guy in my eyes so I did not care for him last nite. Was really shocked at the hype that Jason received I did not like him that much last nite hes starting to grow old with me.David Cook just murdered his performance along side Carly.David A always the same no WOW factor for me with him at all good voice but just nothing.I thought Kristy Cook did well she is all about going country and does well with it.Brooke did ok I felt she needed to bring it on more and she looked sooooo sad last nite for some reason, maybe because of who was in the crowd routeing for her?I thought that Syesha did good too. I think Carly,Jason and Micheal in bottom 3.It just blows my mind with ALL of the song choices these people have almost every week that mostly pick bad songs go figure.
Lisa -- I say it over and over, song choice will make or break you in this competition. Especially as we get closer to the top.

Who did best at song choice?

Jason picked a song arrangement that was perfect for his style. If you don't know the version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel K (a long Hawaiian name) -- look it up on YouTube. I liked the Ukulele!

Archuleta and Kristy Lee both know what kind of artist they want to be, and what kind of songs they want to sing. That's why they will both make it through to next week. Props to David A for picking a song that's not so familiar to Americans. I didn't love his performance, but his fans will. I am beginning to think TPTB have figured Kristy Lee for a girl that will sell a certain number of records without giving them a lot of issues, and therefore she got so much praise for an average performance of an okay song.

Brooke's song choice was good for her, but she's just not comfortable standing on the stage. I've seen Carole King do the song live a couple of times, and she brings such warmth and magic to her performance, you just want to get up and hug her. I expect Brooke's ITunes recording to be better this week.

I agree with you totally on Michael. I keep wanting him to be smarter about song choice than he is, and if he was smarter, he would sing blues-rock. I think even Ace Young's version of "Dream On" is better.

I tried to vote for Carly last night but only got through twice. If she's in the bottom three again, the fix is in. She did mess up the end, but I like her in the Heart/Pat Benatar groove.
I was introduced to Israel "Iz" Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'ole, by a friend, about 6 or 7 years ago. His version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What A Wonderful World never fails to move me.

I was disappointed with last night as a whole, it was pretty boring.

Yes, I agree ladies, Michael didn't pick the right song AGAIN but I sure hope he is back next week. Devil

I did enjoy Jason Castro and I do know that version from a commercial that I have heard alot. They might have been advertising a vacation destination but I seriously can't remember. It was perfect for his style.

Brooke needs to pull herself together. She was on the verge of tears and shaking when Ryan came over. She needs a pep talk or something.

Carly and David Cook weren't so great this week but should be safe.

Amy is right, David A sounds like that every week. He doesn't do it for me but I have no doubt he will do well after all this.

Christy sounded good for Christy and if she did go it would be a good week for her to go.

I have a feeling Syesha might be the one to go this week.
I still like both Davids and Jason....sue me! Michael is actually growing on me a bit. Carly has good nights and bad nights IMO but overall has a great voice. I am undecided about Brooke....she has an OK voice and picks songs that suit her but looks so uncomfortable many times on stage.

I think Syesha and Brooke may be in jeopardy this week. Kristy now has the country fans behind her.
No one really blew me away last night. I was not awed by any one performance.

Michael - Well, I just enjoy him. What can I say? Devil

Syesha - was good but that one note really hurt my ears! Where did that come from? It was sort of a weird performance.

Jason - it was good. I liked it - some are saying it was his "moment" but I can't bring myself to say that. There's still something lacking in his performance abilities - maybe it's the fact he doesn't have gray hair. What can I say? Smile

Kristy - she did a good job. She's no Martina but it was acceptable in the world of country music. I love that girl's hair too.

David C - I want to hear this song in it's entirety. I think I will like it and I intend to download it as soon as I can. I just love his intelligence and intensity.

Carly - It was good. She sounded good. I just don't quite get her yet...but I'm not opposed to her sticking her around.

David A - I love Angels by Robbie Williams and when I heard he was going to sing that I was apprehensive. He didn't live up to the original. It was a bland rendition.

Brooke - Well I just love her. And when Ryan said she was shaking after her performance, I did want to hug her. It was just a nice performance - not much else to say.

I'd have to send Syesha home this week...but I guess we'll see. Smile
I'm also amazed at the songs they picked given all the inspirational
songs out there-very bizarre. I think most of this year's group doesn't get it that AI likes wholesome, familiar, songs with a melody. I was
surprised by David Cook (who to me is getting that cocky vibe that
Daughtry perfected) and Carly's songs especially. Brooke's ITunes
version will be much better than the live performance-she may be in
trouble. Too bad, as I like her. Jason picked a cool version, but I
think he could've done it much better. He's not sounding "strong" or
something. Still love him and voted Heart When I saw the ukelele
all I could think of is the shirt we gave Taylor Grin

As for who will go? Probably Syesha although she probably doesn't
deserve to-she doesn't seem to have the fan connection.
