I too am out of the loop when it comes to ALW. I've never been to
a Broadway show, and haven't rented the movies either. I think
they'll probably do well with these though-they are probably familiar
songs to most people, especially kids who aim for stardom
I can't wait until the weeks where they do more than one song either!
This season is really flying by!
This one called 'Gethsemane " has some of the most powerfully moving lyrics of all times, listen to the words it's brilliant !After all these years it still brings me to tears ! Michael Johns wanted to do this one !
I too am a BIG ALW fan...dont forget Joseph & the technicolor Dreamcoat...that was the first of ALW and Tim Rice (who wrote music for Lion King on his own)...and of course ALW had Evita, Cats...which I've seen 3million times on BOTH sides of the Atlantic. I see David A doing "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph. Carly should do something from Evita...or maybe David Cook could do Rum-Tum Tiger (don originally by Paul Nicholas who was in the movie verison of SGT Pepper and also had a minor hit in the 70's (Heaven on the 7th Floor)...ALW has sooooo many good tunes. You can rent many of the ALW DVD's...my Donny O is on the DVD for Joseph. I totally for got ALW version of Sunset Blvd and Chess...the list goes on.
I saw JCSS with Sebastian Bach as the lead role...he was the most beautiful 6'5 blonde version of My Lord...there is a good version on DVD that played on PBS a few years ago.
Thanks so much JAG for posting the videos.. getting us in the mood.
I had forgotten all about EVITA until they had the video in one of the end-cap displays at Target tonight (slaps head). So who gets to sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"?
I was trying to think if there are any good songs from Starlight Express....
Amy: You may want to rent either or both movies in prep for next week... or see if the library has soundtracks you can check out. I know you'll like some of the JC Superstar songs.
Pretty good bet my local movie rental place does not have either of those...
And I don't actually go into the library - I just steal their wireless signal.
