I wish I loved ALW...but sadly, I dont. Well, its not that I dont cuz I do think "Jesus Christ Superstar" was very good--and, I do like "Evita". But I cant stand "Cats" or "Phantom"! Maybe its all the tv commercials I saw on my local stations advertising their runs on B'Way (remember, Im a born and raised Jersey gal!). (Same thing goes for "Sweeney Todd" and "Little Shop of Horrors"--but I LOVE Little Shop!)

When my friend and I were travelling across country to LA, he played the soundtrack from "Phantom" until I took the cassette and threw it out of the window!Devil (Yes, we are still friends!!)

This week will be interesting, to say the least....

Margaux Wrote:
Thanks so much JAG for posting the videos.. getting us in the mood.
I had forgotten all about EVITA until they had the video in one of the end-cap displays at Target tonight (slaps head). So who gets to sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"?

I was trying to think if there are any good songs from Starlight Express....

You're very welcome.I haven't seen these in a long time and really enjoyed watching them again.Broadway musicals are one of my passions, right up there with Taylor Hicks LOL !Heart

indigo.....That's a funny story about throwing the CD out the window Grin

Variations,
an Orchestral/Cello composition, which was written for Andrew's brother, Julian, who is a most accomplished Cello player, as a result of a soccer (footy) bet.
This work is based on Paganini's 'A Minor Caprice' (A = the key, not the letter) and the first 4 variations were the theme song for a TV show that was (is?) on Bravo called "South Bank Show"

The other piece of music, "Aurora" was written by both Andrew's & Julian's late father, William, who was a most accomplished musician in his own right:

Requiem
http://www.amazon.com/Andrew-Lloyd-Webbe...055&sr=1-1
Sir Andrew composed this in honor of his father, and it is all in LATIN.

I would give whomever MAJOR POINTS if anyone would do this piece from "Requiem" called "Pie Jesu" as performed by the former Mrs. Sir Lloyd Webber and Paul Miles Kingston... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3mTANHqZLI
This HAS been done as a solo piece, before...
Here is Hayley Westenra (of New Zealand) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr6ajtA5Otg
Charlotte Church also has done this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn4sXY2u9xg

Phantom of the Opera, the

Starring the one, the only Michael Crawford as the Phantom: http://www.amazon.com/Phantom-Opera-Orig...m_title_14

The role of Christine Daae was written SPECIFICALLY for Sarah Brightman, who happened to be Sir Andrew's girlfriend at the time...
Funnily enough, Sir Andrew's FIRST wife's name was ALSO Sarah...

The DVD,starring Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum & Patrick Wilson: http://www.amazon.com/Phantom-Opera-Two-...684&sr=1-2

Just like "Pie Jesu" from "Requiem," I would give MAJOR POINTS to whomever would attempt this song on Tuesday...

Sunset Boulevard Musical version of the classic movie starring William Holden and Gloria Swanson, who happened to be one of Joseph Kennedy, Sr's (yes, JFK's dad) mistresses...

Whistle Down the Wind
The original book was written by Mary Hayley Bell, the mother of Hayley Mills;
http://www.amazon.com/Whistle-Down-Andre...232&sr=1-1

It was made into a movie, starring Hayley Mills, but this particular DVD will NOT work on our DVD players, unless if you are happen to own a multi-region DVD player (I do, only because of Hugh Jackman Heat ): http://www.amazon.com/Whistle-Down-Wind-...330&sr=1-2

The CDs:
http://www.amazon.com/Likes-US-Andrew-Ll...129&sr=1-1

Various DVD Compilations:
Andrew Lloyd Webber - The Royal Albert Hall Celebration
This was Sir Andrew's 50th birthday bash...
To perform at The Royal Albert Hall is comparable to perform at Carnegie Hall...
As a yet ANOTHER aside, Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) is an AMAZING singer, who portrayed Norma Desmond on Broadway in "Sunset Boulevard" does a couple of numbers here...
See Antonio Banderas SIZZLE as he does a couple of numbers from "Phantom"
http://www.amazon.com/Andrew-Lloyd-Webbe...046&sr=1-1

Andrew Lloyd Webber - Masterpiece (Collector's Edition)
This is an AMAZING show, which was filmed in Beijing, China, as a Goodwill trip, and Tony Vincent (Judas Iscariot from "JCS 2000") is a featured performer...

ONLY A PRODUCER, NOT AS THE COMPOSER

Bombay Dreams http://www.amazon.com/Bombay-Dreams-2002...795&sr=1-1

Sound of Music, the There was a nation-wide talent TV show in the UK called "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?" to cast Maria for the up-coming production of "The Sound of Music" in London...

Here in the US, something similar was shown on TV called "Grease: You're the One That I Want!" which was a talent search for the roles of Danny Zuko & Sandra Dee:

MM-this is a great "crash course" re all the shows-Thanks for taking
the time to post all the info. Maybe I'll check some out this weekend
if I can get away from this censored office Haha
Yes, thank you MM! We knew you would be the "go-to girl" for this info!
Thanks MM,truley works to be proud of.ALW,is an amazing man.
Thanks MM - not sure I'll ever have enough time to look through all of these. I've not seen one of these shows/movies...except for The Sound of Music!

Now, why couldn't Moulin Rouge be one of these...I loved that movie! Haha
I saw Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Boston and was really psyched to see Donny Osmond in the lead but he was not there that day. Sad
His understudy did a great job and I have the soundtrack with Donny on it but I was still disappointed. Great show and music by ALW.
