Taylor Hicks won't be performing on tonight's two-hour finale of "American Idol." The Hoover-born singer is in Italy this week, playing dates that Hicks said were booked quite a while ago.
"It's a vacation with some gigs," Hicks said Thursday.

The only "idols" who sang last night were Jordin and Carrie. Fantasia and Ruben were there, but neither performed (although Ruben performed Tuesday and Fantasia last week). There was buzz last week about two idols from every season, and I'm sure there were at least that many in attendance, based on who I saw at the red carpet show, however there was no formal mention during the show.
Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken and Kat McPhee were NOT there, nor was Daughtry. Blake Lewis didn't get more than a few camera shots. At least Chris Sligh got a pretty funny Jimmy Kimmel shout-out.
The Season 5 representatives I saw during the red carpet show were Paris, Ace and Covais.
I'm sure for Taylor it came down to: Simon, Randy and Paula vs. The Band, Bill, Ona and Italy.
