The current heat wave has brought the feel of summer to New England! One of the things I thought about during the recent heat was summer reading. What's on your summer reading list? Have you read anything recently that may be summer worthy? How about some classics that would be appropriate while sitting at the beach. And is there anything we should absolutely avoid? We'd love to know.
Yes I have a recommendation it's called GIFT from the SEA the author is Anne Morrow Lindbergh she was the wife of Charles Lindbergh. It was first published over 50 years ago.Her daughter Reeve Lindbergh has republished it.
IT IS WONDERFUL A MUST READ.I am NOT a reader and my sister gave me this book at Xmas time its a short read maybe 2 hours A GREAT WOMENS BOOK
about our everyday bumps in the road and pleasures of a womans life.
5 STAR FORESURE.
Excellent choice Lisa!

My mom's favorite book of all time.
I'd have to add Beach Girls by Luanne Rice (or anything by Luanne
Rice-she is one of my favorites!) A true beach book.
Luanne Rice lives not far from where I work. Well, in the summer anyway.

Dad has fixed lamps for her.
I think one of my favorite books for summer reading has been
Angry Housewives Eating Bon-Bons. I read that in Florida the last time I was there. Quick read, great format.
What I'm reading right now is
Lost by Gregory Maguire, the guy that wrote
Wicked. It's a wintery story so it's helping to keep me cool.

Books are the things with pages and writing on them right?

I plan to do lots of reading. Some new contemporary books and some old classics. I've always wanted to read "Uncle Tom's Cabin" among many others. I also like anything by Anita Shreve. I have "The Road Less Traveled" here somewhere, but haven't cracked it open yet.

I know Amy! I LOVE to read and it has been a few months since I've had my nose in one. We are leaving for the shore tomorrow so this thread has been great for suggestions. Thanks guys!
If you have spent any time in Boston and appreciate it's rich history, I recommend Back Bay by William Martin. It's a mystery of sorts about a theft and Boston's Back Bay area in historical times. He has two others...Cape Cod and Harvard Yard that I want to pick up!
My favorite classic novel is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
I have a stack of books waiting to be read. A few about the Kennedys and The Gift Of Fear by Gavin DeBecker (sp?)(featured on Oprah years ago).
My fourth grader is in the middle of the Harry Potter series and the Narnia series at the same time! One at school and one at home. She is very partial to mysteries and mythical/magical creatures. I am one of the few adults who never picked up Harry Potter.

I highly recommend Back Bay. I actually read it as a teenager. I've always been a historical fiction fan - first American history and now European. The books by Phillipa Gregory - The Other Boleyn Girl, The Queen's Fool, The Virgin's Lover, and The Constant Princess - are fantastic summer reads.
Gregory Maguire, previously mentioned by Mari, is awesome. If you have not read Wicked, do. The political and psycho-social undertones in this book are fascinating. His other takes on classic fairy tales are very good as well - Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister and Mirror Mirror.
For this summer, I've picked up The Boleyn Inheritance by Phillipa Gregory, The Birth House by Ami McKay and An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor. I'll report back on all.
SH, you should read Harry Potter. I never thought I would be into it, but I am. And it's a wonderful thing I can share with my daughter!
Great thread Tricia! Will have to check out the ones you guys have
mentioned at the library

Seger, I've never picked up Harry
Potter either. I think it's the rebel in me

Anytime I'm told I
HAVE to do something I resist. I'm sure I'll check it out this summer-
so many people I like love the series
