Quote:
"We invite you to read through a brief history of Vanguard Records, but we caution you, the best way to get to know Vanguard is to audibly sample our rich musical history!

50 years ago Seymour Solomon and his younger brother Maynard founded Vanguard Records in New York City. The two brothers started with a $10,000 loan from their father and rented a tiny one-room office in a rabbit warren at 80 East 11th Street (also known as 799 Broadway). Two years later, as the company was expanding, they were loaned an additional $13,000 This was the total capitalization for a company that within a few years was to become one of America's leading independent labels.

Founded at an auspicious moment in music history, with the LP format having been introduced two years earlier, Vanguard first commissioned the recordings of five Bach cantatas. From the beginning the company maintained two label series, Vanguard and the Bach Guild, and as the LP market blossomed Vanguard's fortunes blossomed with it. The emphasis remained on the classical catalog, but soon the company was recording music of every kind, from the Jazz Showcase series produced by John Hammond to show music.

In the 1950s, Seymour and Maynard had the courage to break with the entertainment industry and record blacklisted performers, including Paul Robeson and the Weavers. The 1955 Christmas concert by the Weavers at Carnegie Hall was so successful, that although they continued to expand the classical catalog, there was an ever increasing emphasis on folk and popular music."

I saw word of this on TMS last night, but there wasn't any backup info. I didn't want to post it here because I couldn't find any confirmation. I searched and searched last night and found nothing! Since I knew it would be distributed by Welk I assumed it would be on the Vanguard label. Which is awesome!!! Do you think this means his new CD will be on Vanguard?
I love the Vanguard "rebel" reputation. Think it's a great fit for Taylor
Highfive Things do seem to be progressing as he's predicted so far

The SP can go back to our regularly scheduled rearranging retail shelves all over the world Hahaon August 12th.

Would this be a good time to plan a family picnic and listening party?
Huggy After planning NYC anything else is going to seem really
easy. Roll Eyes
Do you guys think this CD will be available commercially?

I don't think I need to buy this CD, however. It's all recordings that I already have and I've purchased it for all of my friends that will let me.
I think so Amy. Definitely put it on your alerts over at Amazon.

I thought he has said something about re-recording things. No matter, I think I would want to have it in my collection.
IF it's re-recorded, I would buy it. If it's just the same things I already own, I gotta say. It won't be a high-priority for me to purchase.
I will buy it just because.......................I feel he really would like me to!GrinHeart
OK...further information on this.

According to an email received by caniegirl on the Boogie from Vanguard, Taylor is releasing this album on his own label, Modern Whomp Records. Vanguard is just doing the distribution of the album.
Love that he has his own label!

I know David would say, "Why are you buying the album when you have it already?"

My reply is, "Because I have to!" I like your rationale, Lisa--because Taylor would want me to!
From the sounds of it, he doesn't actually have his own label, but he does have a vanity imprint on the Vanguard label. If Welk does distribution for Vanguard, and Vanguard says they're doing the distribution for MWR... that says to me he's "signed" with Vanguard.

Just my "no coffee yet" music industry mind working, so don't take this as truth, I'm just trying to work things out logically. And as we all know, logic has no place in the music industry!
