With the anniversary of Taylor's AI win fast approaching, it got me thinking back to last year and the first time I thudded because of Taylor. I thought it might be an interesting topic for this board, and that everyone might like to share (if not, the moderators can delete).
So here is my first thud: I had been watching AI all season, and early on had picked Taylor as my favorite guy and Paris as my favorite gal in the competition. I found Taylor entertaining and interesting, but I first thudded when he sang "Just Once". Once my husband scraped me off the floor, I found I could hardly breathe and I hardly slept that night.
The next day I came to work and another Tay fan who also loved the song emailed me a link to where I could download it. It was the first song I ever downloaded, and the start of my obsession with Taylor.
Now I thud almost daily (OK, I admit, daily). I know some out there do it hourly! LOL

OK I really liked Taylor and thought wouldnt it be cool if that guy won! Every week I couldnt wait for him to perform and then he did You Are so Beautiful and
and now the rest is history!
Okay, so during 90% of season 5, it was all about the music. At some point I realized, hey this guy is pretty cute, and has a great personality. But, it was the voice. Until . . . I saw him on the AI tour. We saw him in Manchester, the second stop on the tour. It was then I realized how beautiful he really was. Seeing Taylor that night was a full body experience for me. He grabbed me mind, heart, and soul that night and has never let go.

He first caught my interest at his audition and I thought he was kinda cute then, but when I first found him thud-worthy.... during Levon maybe
Trouble. That did me in. I found him interesting prior too and loved his groovy dance moves and spastic motions.
But when he did Trouble, I ran to my computer to download and listen to it again and knew I was in love. That was when I found the "official" soul patrol and went on the AI boards for the very first time. I had no idea so much internet Idol community existed!
I wouldn't call it my first "thud" but I agree with what Amy posted about Trouble.
Taylor caught my eye from his first audition because of the gray hair...he was different and recognizable. As the weeks passed I wanted to see him more and more and I LOVED his song choices...M.McDonald, Commodores, Elton etc. I remember hoping that he would make the cut each week.
Then Taylor sang Trouble and I was totally smitten with his voice. When he sang Something I thought he looked very attractive...liked what they did with his hair and the purple shirt. With 4 eliminations left I started voting...I had NEVER done this before. The night of the finals I tried for 2 hours and only got through 4 times to vote...the lines were crazy. I was sooooo happy when he won and was on People magazine! The Manchester Idols shows went on sale the day my daughter made her First Communion so I couldn't buy tickets before they sold out.

As I started searching for AI images of Taylor online I decided to get AI Tour tickets on eBay and although it was a great season and I liked Elliott and Chris...I went to see Taylor and he did not disappoint.
Over the second half of 2006 I was on the fan sites and saw lots of videos, photos, and interviews and the more I learned about Mr. Hicks, the more I liked.
Everything from his intellect to his manners to his style to his sense of humor to his sexy accent....I developed a "crush" on the man, not just his music.

I cannot say when it happened....it was insidious. Seeing Taylor live this past April solidified why I have been spending my time and money on this man. He is a rare gem...I don't have to explain it to the fans I've met online. I feel sorry for those who don't "get" Taylor or aren't "into" music. Music makes me very happy and Taylor's music makes me over the moon happy.

I liked his looks from day one, as he looked like my "first love"

and also like a friend who had recently passed away. (hmmm, I wonder if first love looks like him now???? did I say that out loud?

) Enjoyed the music from the start too. I think where I
went over the edge was Play That Funky Music. I thought Trouble
was sexy, and was reading the boards from early on, but PTFM just
did something to my insides. The doing his own thing despite Simon,
the writhing on the floor, the silliness, the ending

I was just gone.
For me it was somewhere between Play that Funky Music, and You Send Me. (which one was first?) I watched American Idol for the first time EVER during Queen Week, cause that just sounded too weird to be true.. and weirder than anything they did this year for sure.
I was amazed that they were mostly Really Good Singers, but Taylor didn't jump out from the pack for me at first.
You Send Me was the first time he got me with The Voice, it's such a romantic song, and he did a fine job of bringing it home with the ending. That may have been the first week he wore a Really Nice Suit. So I was impressed.
But when he wriggled on the floor, I knew he was in it to win it. I said, he reminds me of all those dorky boys that used to like me -- except he can sing. That was it.
When Taylor came out strutting his stuff in that black suit I think he sang LFTC,for the first time. That was it for me!
DebD I was right there with ya regarding Taylor and Paris, those were my 2 from the start.(Melinda this year reminded me of Paris a bit). But my first thud.......Hmmm.... I fell for Taylor's "personality"(what we saw) and the sweet innocence about him ( plus he was cute and the voice just grabbed me ) from the first audition! But when was the first Thud/Drool ? Well he had me from Taking it to the Streets-hook, line and sinker-that is when I knew I was done! That's when I started looking at his profile, finding out about UTR (and of course buying it), I knew he was something special and I had to have him! Okay I didn't word that right but you know what I mean! Of course the YASB and Something performances were beyond belief and I think my heart rate has changed permanently sice then. Plus the In The Ghetto transformation-isn't that when they George Clooney-ed him with the hair and leather jacket? My jaw has been on the floor ever since!
