DH surpirised me with a new camera after I was checking some out lately and researching them online. I thought I'd get it for my b-day in Dec. but he came home with the one I wanted and said it was my "going back to school" present!

I tried it out on our lovebirds. I was about 5 feet away and zoomed in on them.
Clover is the olive green bird with bright orange face and Dusty is the mint green bird with gray and white face.

Guess which one is the NUT???

They make great pets...tame and like to be with people. Kids are allergic to almost everything with fur, we had fish for a while (boring) and I don't care for reptiles so....birds are it for us!

Here is a shot of Dusty's turquoise tail feathers:
What beautiful birds, and their colors!
They are beautiful SH. Do they every lay eggs? In other words, can you raise them at home?

We bought them as hand fed babies so they would be used to human touch and very tame. The store gets them from the breeder right after hatching so the bird parents don't have much chance to feed them and the store employees hand feed them formula via syringe/dropper for weeks. Lovebirds are one of only two species of bird (I believe) where you cannot tell males from females without a DNA blood test! If you have a known male and female and place a breeder box and nesting materials in the cage, they will mate. We think these two are females but not sure and they stay in separate cages.
We have had a total of 4 lovebirds so far....one we had to return after a year and a half because he became nasty after his first birthday and started biting us all viciously for no reason....ears, lips, fingers, necks....my kids were in tears many times. Another bird died when he was only 14 months old. They can live up to 15 years. Smile

Those are beautiful birds SH,wow the colors are very well colorful.Looks like that new camera will be making Taylor look pretty darn good too Drool close ups please...........not that he needs anything to make him look good.Grin

I snuck in when the cats weren't looking Haha Those birds are stunning Seger! Love their colors! What a nice husband to get you a back to school camera Huggy Looks like it's a nice one judging from the pictures!

So we have this HUGE pet store in town and they sell all types of animals and I was there buying bird food today. My son asks to go into the puppy room. They always have at least 12 puppies there...nice variety of breeds. Up pops this PRECIOUS baby and she stole my heart. It was love at first sight Heart. She is an American Eskimo female, fluffy white fur, white eyelashes, dark eyes and a mottled pink and black nose. She was as white as snow and the markings on her nose were unique. I could not pull myself away....she was so gentle and adorable and was pleading with her face for a nice home. I swear, if my girls were not allergic I would have bought her without discussing it with DH. Fear
I had to tear myself away from her pen....and now I keep telling myself dogs are a lot of work, vet bills are expensive, and there would be white fur all over my house. I hope she finds a wonderful family. Sigh. What a precious creature.
SH are your girls allergic to all dogs, because if it's their fur some dogs have hair instead of fur.You know the dumb one I had that made me famous..Haha he a hair......no brain but hair..............gee maybe a catch there.Haha

Oh and whats a little shit to pick up here there and EVERYWHERE.Fear

Oh I forgot this tid-bit too they don't shed with hair.Cool
Seger, your birds are beautiful.

Lisa - I've lived with one dog in my lifetime - loved him - but never again. People can complain that cats are too independent all they want - it's one of their best attributes as far as I'm concerned. Try putting out food, water & a clean litter box for a dog and going away for a day or two - - I rest my case blushing

ETA: the pretty birdies made me remember seeing this Smile

Humorous Pictures
more animals
For as long as I can remember, my father always had bird feeders in the yard and loved seeing the cardinals in the winter....now I do too. Heart

My oldest is as much allergic to dog saliva as she is to some fur....if a dog licks her, she gets hives. Sad There is no bigger animal lover than my girl....she hates her animal allergies more than her food allergies. I have never been a cat person but agree they must be much easier than dogs when you are away from home!
