Well it's been 8 very fast flying years since I've been OUT THERE! Now I'm faced with trying to balance my life and have decided to try sub-teaching throughout our area schools.I have been pleasently surprise at the large need for this field. In fact I'm still blown away at the need, anyway I wanted to still go and volunteer in my childerns classes (while they still love me Wink So I'm available for subbing a couple of days of the week.Got a call last nite and they need me for a staight week....holy shit shocked Didn't dare say ermm I 'm only available a couple days a week.Any hoot it will be fun but I'm really having a major crisis about the pay check its been 8 years.Taylor get out there touring next spring, summer and fall because this chick has a pay check to hand to ya!!!!!!!!HahaWoohooOMG I just had a terrible thought shocked can I go to this job in jeans, shorts and no shoes and socks.Completely forgot about the word DRESSCODE............Haha
Wow Lisa, so exciting! Huggy Can we switch roles, you go back into the workforce and I head out? Roll Eyes I've had one year off in the last 22 so yeah, I am so damn ready!
good luck Lisa! I've never had even a month off, so I'll trade too.
Lisa - - congratulatins on finding a job that's a good fit for a working mom - - and you have my sympathy ! - - kidding - mostly anyway.
Taught middle school math many years ago - loved the kids and loved teaching - seriously disliked dealing with the parents who held the title only by virtue of creating a new life. So when a corporation I was doing some part time work for made me a good offer I took it.
Years later when that company moved out of state and I decided to stay in Maine, I thought about going back into education so tried substitute teaching.
It has it's good and bad points - - requires an immense amount of patience - sometimes mind reading comes in handy if working off a lesson plan when the teacher didn't expect to be out that day - and a thick skin doesn't hurt either ! Smile
But it can also be a lot of fun - - wishing you lots of the fun days !
Good for you Lisa! Best of Luck! I would love to go back to work but I sill have work to do at home with an itty bitty who rocks my world. I'll be honest and say in a few years I can't wait to be like you! Go get em Lisa! w00t

Lisa-congrats!! I've been thinking of picking up some subbing days too (also thinking of future tour costs Haha). I think I'll let you be the guinea pig first Huggy It's great you'll be with kids-you're so enthusiastic and fun-they should love you w00t I think we all work way too hard-all these years of work with no breaks can't be normal! Drool

I'd love to trade places with Trish and hang with Addison! Kiss
Congrats Lisa!! Having a job in the school system works out perfectly for those of us with young kids. In any other job you have to worry about what to do for each week long school vacation and all summer. My good friend just got a job as recess attendant at the elementary school....three hours every day policing the playground! Smile At least she can spy on my girls for me!

Yes, after staying home for 12 years, I got the perfect job as a tutor (now they call them para-educators) in an elementary school. I love having all the days off they have. I only work 6 hrs day. of course, I don't get paid for summer vacation, but it has worked out well for my life.
There does seem to be a huge need for subs! I hope you like it and it works out for you!
I've never heard of a recess monitor- not such a bad idea.

Best of luck, Lisa! I wish I could have had someone like you as a substitute teacher! Grin
Just wanted to give everyone great big ol Huggy for all of the kind words of encouragement. I'll keep you updated and report back with all of my Argh
banging moments and I'm sure there will be many.
