Soul Patrol rocks Tupelo

Taylor Hicks has got to be exhausted.

The 2006 “American Idol” winner sweat, sang and danced his way into the hearts of Tupelo fans this evening as he performed at the Tupelo Elvis Presley Festival.

BTW some familiar names in the comments but "those" aren't me - LOL

Graduation Day

‘Pride’ of Raleigh County graduate during local high school ceremonies

By Amelia A. Pridemore
Register-Herald Reporter

On the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center’s lower floor, Liberty High School senior class president Corey Brooks walked to a microphone alone.

As he belted out the slightly modified lyrics to a Taylor Hicks song, Brooks seemingly asked the question on the minds of more than 500 Raleigh County high school seniors who walked across the stage Saturday.

He sang: “This is what we’ve dreamed about. The only question with us now is — do we make you proud? Stronger than we’ve ever been now. Never been afraid of standing out. Do we make you proud?”

even if Taylor is not overly thrilled with DIMYP,  he made it into something very special for a lot of people - - suspect this not unique as graduation exercises start to snowball all over the country - - -

btw - - will go on record as saying I love DIMYP because of all the things it has been used for - just take a wander over on YouTube - -  I love what Taylor did with it - in the hands of a less skilled musician it would have been gag-worthy  - - and can't help it, it wanders through my mind often as Taylor wends his way through the mind field of his new life because dammit he does make me proud ! !  So shoot me !

I am with you AgingHippie. The song may not be the greatest lyrics ever written, or the catchiest tune, but Taylor sang it with all his heart and soul. Particularly the night he won Idol. That's what I think of when I hear the song - Taylor's victory! And Simon saying "you just won American Idol." He does make me proud, to be his fan and a member of the Soul Patrol!
Add me to the list,I have always liked DIMYP.It has been used for some beautiful tributes. When I hear it I remember how happy he was that night, and the way he poured his soul into belting it out after he won.He took a mediocre song and turned it into what is sure to become a classic.
From the Tupelo review...

“Everybody says I dance like Elvis but look like Joe Cocker,” he said, “but I think I’d rather have it the other way.”

did she get that quote right?? or did Taylor get confused for a moment?
I didn't really study that quote when I read it the first time - but I'm guessing Taylor got confused for a moment. He does that occasionally...and that's why we love him.
We should start a list of Taylor malapropisms (sp?). Then some day we could give them to him in a book. LOL
Deb, I love that idea - - Taylor seems to have a wonderful sense of humor and would probably get a big kick out of  it - - -  but good grief where to start !?!?

Taylor Hicks = the Yogi Berra of music ? ?

ETA:  this one made me think of Taylor

" You give 100 percent in the first half of the game, and if that isn't enough in the second half you give what's left".

and this one made me think of all of us and our Taylor-related online communities

"We have a good time together, even when we're not together."
