Grimsby - where are you  - post your solution to the problem that we discussed last night!

ETA: Grimsby gave me permission to copy & paster her PM to me from last night. I think we've got the situation under control.

Excellent news! Michael agrees Mill Store, buy the stool unfinished. I asked about height; Michael is 6'4" so I figured he would be close to Taylor's height. (Now that I recall Taylor looked so cute looking up at Michael in Hyannis when Michael handed him my newspaper to sign). Anyway Michael said if it is too tall Taylor can cut the legs off!

For the seat, cushiony suggests Michael would be best.
Natural leather color with some type of stuffing, then on the outer rim....oh get this....New England Soul Patrol so it is visible when he is on stage! The seat top: one of those buttons in the center, and whatever y'all want it to say.
There are two leather shops right near here that do custom stuff so the plan is to talk to them after July 4 to see if they can do this, what it costs, and how long it takes.

Oh for the finishing of the wooden stool, staining, sealing, etc....Michael will do that.

YAY, Michael!!! I can't wait to see the finished product.

a thought occured to me while I was posting a link in another thread and realized it belonged over here with the gifts ideas so - - -

ETA: just a tidbit - - Stephen, merch mgr, told me in Cohasset that Taylor has a collection of her best pictures and they all think it is awesome - -

maybe NESP could put together a collection and put it in the binder sleeves to be added to the book we gave him in Hampton Beach ? ? ?

we should be able to pull together pictures from all the New England shows so far without any trouble and be able to get some from all the ones coming up

could maybe do a collage page - front and back even - for each show and put it in one of those sleeves so he can add it to the three ring binder we already gave him - - or could do a new one

the only concert that might be a challenge would be the Big E - - unless I can convince hubby we need a printer for the laptop by then  Devil
will probably know some of the people working the Maine baked potato booth so would have a place to keep everything until needed it
just would have to hope he hung around for a while

so what do you all think ? yea, nay ? optional twists ?

I have a couple of good ones from Avalon & Hampton Beach. My sister has a great one from Cohasset...if I can ever get her to EMAIL it to me! She did print me off a copy. It's of him & the red guitar and it's very nice! Smile
I agree re the button-we want him to be comfortable in that area Devil

Nice idea re pics from concerts-I'm sure between us we have enough
to fill a book of some kinds. It might be fun to add recaps from various
shows so he can see it all from a fan's point of view (if we weren't
too embarrassed that is Haha)
Tricia had a great idea, to have different people coordinate the gifts
for Taylor and the Band for different shows as we have so many coming up. Here's what we've got so far...

Torrington CT Need gifts for both. Can some people attending do this
one? Doesn't have to be something big as there aren't as many people
going, but we should have NESP represented Huggy

Lincoln RI The personalized stool for Taylor. Do Amy and Deirdre want to head this up as they're already working on it? Need band idea.

Portland RI We could use the books I ordered for this one (Buffett,
Guerilla Marketing for Musicians, and a Ray book) but need to add
stuff and something for band. Linda? Peggy? you guys find some cool
stuff in your travels...Highfive

Concord NH I think Tricia's going to head this one. Cool decorated boxes of goodies for the band, and not sure what yet for Taylor-need ideas. People can contribute goodies from their areas, as long as
they're packaged. (Haha I know that word will send you off topic,
try to focus people Devil)

BigE We'll do the quilt for Taylor. Everyone that wants to can do a
square and I'll pull it together. Maybe some pillowcases for the band?

I know we're going to need some cash for all this. Do people want to
donate and then their name will go on the card? (Tricia, will you have
time to do cool cards again?) Maybe small donation if only going to
one show and more if going to many? The best plan would be to set
aside change for RI and gamble and make enough to pay for everything, but we probably need plan B as well Roll Eyes
I do know that with the Stool I will also send along a letter telling him the story behind why we're giving him a stool. I'm going to post a poll here in a few days too asking people which song they would like to hear most from him on the stool. Everyone keep watch for that. I will probably tuck it in this Gift Thread.

Oh - I'm going Fugly shirt shopping tomorrow - if I find something that I deem Fugly enough, I will take a photo and post it here for you all to comment.

Gifts for the band...hmmmm...

For the people planning the Maine gifts - remember that is the height of blueberry season in the state. I live in the Blueberry Capital of the World, so if you need anything of that nature, let me know. The stores around here will have a ton of stuff - including something I found in my local Hannaford - Blueberry Cream Soda made in Rockland. I'd never seen it before!
Regarding the personalization, I think something like Soul Patrol would be good. I like the idea of NESP, but that limits him as to when he could use it, and if it said something like Soul Patrol he could use that in any venue, any city, any tour for years to come! What do y'all think?
I think Taylor could use an NESP stool anywhere he likes.   And now there are rumors that the next tour will be acoustic.. if only to be "cost effective".. lol.
And it would be such a feather in our cap.

I saw an interesting book in my travels today.  It's full of illustrations, articles by participating artists, and includes a DVD:

Come Together: The Official John Lennon Educational Tour Bus Guide to Music and Video (Paperback)

From the Amazon blurb:

Quote:
The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, a nonprofit initiative blessed by Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono Lennon, and supported by a host of civic-minded corporate sponsors, exists in order to encourage young people to embrace and explore their musical and visual creativity, and to inspire them with the possibilities of today’s most cutting-edge creative tools. Traveling the country to the tune of some 65,000 miles every year, the bus is a mobile recording and video production studio boasting the latest in audio and video technology. Students chosen to work on the bus typically spend an eight-hour day working under the guidance of the bus’s staff of young audio engineers.

The accompanying DVD is a smorgasbord of Lennon Bus entertainment. You’ll find interviews with celebrity songwriters and performers, videos of some of the best student works culled from the past ten years, and more. It’s an audio/video snapshot of what the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is all about.

It caught my attention because it's a project to get young people involved in the performing arts, in the name of a true rock n roll hero.
Would this be good for Taylor's book bag?

Hey I know I am not in New England but I do have a suggestion how about a custom USB flash drive metal with laser engraving of Ray Charles's signature or NESP would be a great gift. I know Tay loves his MAC!!!!! I found this website to get you started ....

http://www.customusb.com/help.html

Hope this helps.

Claudia Oakenfull

Or a custome carry case (with NESP on it) for his MAC it is a 17" G4 Powerbook (Lap Top)

Great find and the answer is ABSOLUTELY ! ! Think he would love it.

Love that we give him things like books and CDs and autographed photos of Ray Charles and golf accessories (even the tongue-in-cheek ones - LOL) and personalized water bottles and a personalized stool and a quilt . . . . . . a personalized USB flash drive would fit in there nicely too.
along with gummy lobsters, maple sugar candy, rubber "mullet fish", purple marshmallow Peeps, Maine made mustards and jams, pickled fiddleheads, cowbell t-shirts, purple cowbells and all the fixings for Red Snappers ( light cranberry juice of course ! )
Suspect the mix of fun and useful gifts he receives from us is appreciated and has helped form his opinion of the NESP.

Would love to know what he thought of the Punk Marketing book I was reading on the Boston - HB trip and decided to stick in his bag at the last minute - had to go buy myself another one to finish reading it - LOL
For anyone into marketing or just curious - this is an excellent read - it deals with the forced changes in traditional advertising all businesses are dealing with nowdays.
The way it is written is just as innovative as the content - and the authors must be into music because there are quite a few references using the industry.  That was what made me think of giving it to Taylor - - along with the fact that he has done some interesting things to market himself - - almost wondered if he had already read the book - LOL
