Follow the link for an excellent discussion of Taylor's musical style just getting started - - the blogger's opening thoughts are worth the "trip"

two performances are referenced from Taylor's suberb Cohasset concert that many of us from NESP were lucky enough to attend -  the links are to mj's great GoFish videos

I'm not sure what it would take to knock being at the Avalon when Taylor finally sang Somehow out of 1st place on my list - - but this extraordinary performance  of HOTYL comes close - -
I literally had goosebumps and realized I was holding my breath during "Part Two"  - - I vaguely remember looking at LindaT and realizing that veteran of so many concerts was completely blown away as well - - I will be forever grateful to have been present for this moment when Taylor and his muses seemed in perfect synch

Hold On To Your Love, Part One
     -Graceland (Paul Simon)
-Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes (Paul Simon)
     -Banana Boat Song (Harry Belafonte)
     -The Tide is High (Blondie)
Hold On To Your Love, Part Two
--> Can't Trust Your Neighbor (Johnnie Taylor) --> Lonely Avenue (Ray Charles)

nearly the entire audience quieted down and just listened during his wonderful performance of Soul Serenade  - I hope Taylor took notice of that - it has always been MHO that Taylor needs to do more songs that show off the beautiful unique voice he was blessed with and allow his gift for styling a song to really shine

     -Warm Love (Van Morrison)
-Let's Get it On (Marvin Gaye)
Wowwwwww....
That was just amazing!
Once Taylor gets into that "zone"......wow.
He is a true artist. Aside from Stevie Ray Vaughan, I have never experienced such a performance.
Thank you so much for the link. Heart
AllyKat it was amazing...

That Cohasset show is in my Taylor Top 3 shows...

1 Asheville
2 Cohasset
3 Myrtle Beach
4 Boston
5 Hampton Beach
6 Hyannis
As fabulous as the Cohasset tunes were, My #1 is still Compared to What in Myrtle Beach.. now that was a zone, dirty intense pogo cowbell Taylor emerging from the shell........
Wow,he is something else isn't he ! He is a master of improv, love love his style !
C2W in Myrtle Beach was about as intense as I've seen him. Something to prove that night for sure...
Soul Serenade pretty much knocked me out in Cohasset. I agree AH, he needs to show off that wonderfully strong clear voice of his more often. The standing ovation he received afterwards proves that. Somehow definitely comes in a close second. I loved how the crowd at the Avalon that night was so quiet during Somehow that you could have almost heard a pin drop!
