Well, if y'all decide on brass chain to hold a tag, I have -- um, my dad has a lot of that. He repairs lamps for a side job. I can snag as much as you want, various sizes...

Grimsby came up with a great idea but I'll let her tell you about it...

Excellent day (again) today re: stool!!!

Stool has been purchased. Michael has customized the stool, and seat. Tomorrow the stool goes for the seat cushion to be made, and to be covered in the leather.

Tatoo-ing is out; just does not show up on the leather.

Long story...short version; airbrushing! Met a very nice man last night that does this, saw his work, am duly impressed, said it will take "overnight" unless extra colors need more drying time. Cost: approx $60 from what I described!

need to select colors for letters & design.....

which brings me to the lettering.

I like Liz's idea of "It's a Soul Thing" for the rim of the stool, on the "front". Big letters.
"property of Taylor Hicks" smaller letters, also on the rim, on the back

For the seat "Soul Patrol" big letters, and the shooting star, done in gold in the center. Soul on top, Patrol on bottom with star in the center.... reflects every fan....and the shooting star is from NESP logo

Now the cool part....."gift from new England Soul Patrol" on the underside with all of us signing our names in indelible marker! Personalized from NESP by NESP.....so many of us have his autograph, let's give him ours....

what do you think?????

Agree Liz's wording is great  - - and  signing the underside of the stool is a neat idea ! ! !

without knowing the color of the leather a color for the letters would be a guess - - something earthy?
- maybe get some male opinions ? ?

airbrushing sounds interesting - -  assume the paint sinks into the leather ?   does it need to be sealed somehow to prevent wear from a fabric like denim ?

wonder how the person who was making these stamped the words on and added color ?   wish the guy who makes leather belts, wallets, pocketbooks, etc. still lived here so could ask him how he does his designs Sad
got the "stamped " from the write up on front page of boogie

The leather is going to be a natural color, not unlike the color pictured in post above.

Went to a few leather shops. The leather used for a cushion is a softer, more pliable leather than is used for belts. The designs we see on belts is either machine made or hand tooled. A much thicker leather is needed for th process as the stamping of the machine or the hand tooling (punching) of the leather would go through the softer material. SO I asked if we could make a cushion from the firmer leather; not really feasible as it would need to be softened to be pliable enough to wrap around a seat, and once soft enough for that the hand tooling of the design would likely pierce the softer leather and ruin the seat.

Tatoo-ing did not work; tried it on a sample piece and it does not show up at all.

Airbrushing: met with an airbrush artist the other night, and saw his work. Based on what I described he can do it overnight unless I have extra colors or layers that need an additional day to dry.

The airbrushing is clear coated once done so that it will not ruin the design. That was my first question! Don't want the design of Taylor's seat to come off on Taylor's seat Devil

Today I'm going to zip in and ask him, the airbrush artist, what colors will best lend themselves to the color leather chosen....before I submit the stool for cushioning. There were a number of colors of leather in stock and I need to know that this will all come together and be beautiful before I leave Taylor's stool for covering.

This must be perfect. This will be a cherished possession.

This all sounds great.. Grimbsy, you rock!
Isn't she? I'm just totally amazed AND thrilled because I know he's just going to love this!
For those of us not going to the RI show, PLEASE take a picture of the stool and post it here.... and if Taylor uses it at the end of the set.....PLEASE take another pic or even better.....VIDEO!!!!!
This sounds like an awesome personalized gift!!! Grin
grimsby - - thanks for the explanation on stamping - -
always wished I'd had the time to take him up on his offer to teach me how to work with the leather - -
gee, I could be doing something fun for a living instead of pushing paper around and biting my tongue with teenagers - -  LOL

that is a nice shade for the leather - happy coincidence that you can use the picture for reference  Smile
Let not your hearts be troubled....many photos will be taken...and posted.

I can not do videos but I'm sure other NESP'ers can....and will.
Grimsby stopped by work last night and brought in the stool and it's
going to look awesome! Michael has added some really cool touches,
the leather looks/feels great, and I think the airbrushing will be great.
It will be personalized on the bottom and we'll do the tag as well.
I really can't wait to see the end result-he's going to be blown away!
Woohoo
