How about these for the band for RI? They could say Modern Whomp
Summer Tour (or any two lines up to 15 letters each) Cheap, but
personal....

Updated 7/11  I think we could put Taylor Hicks for first line
and Whomp Tour '07 for second line. That way we could promote
Taylor, and if we wanted to sell them to the masses we could order
more (they're very reasonable). Another item for our store w00tbounce

I'll order them tomorrow if people are good with the new lettering Highfive
GOOD LUCK TODAY GRIMSBY!!!

I'll check in with you later.
OK Folks - Stool seat to be sent in tomorrow for it's lettering...

What does the consensus want this thing to say?

I'll let Grimsby take it from here - she just explained the whole thing to me. I'll let her explain it to you!
OK stool update......Michael found a place to make leather seat for stool!!! He went out with sample of the leather to tatoo place to see about airbrushing/engraving but they were closed today, so tomorrow we will find that out.

Will take 2 weeks at most to make seat cushion & install to stool....so we're good time wise...as long as we know what we want & where we want it and order it this week. (I like to give extra time "just in case")

We think 3 inches would be good seat height so the New England Soul Patrol will be visible on the outer band of the cushion. (Hope they decide on that - even if "gift from" is done in small script then the NESP spelled out is in big letters).

Color of seat will be a natural leather, brownish so it will wear and age naturally. Plus they had it in stock and it takes awhile to order a half side of a cow, seriously, if I picked a custom color. So I went with what was in stock, and it looks very nice...

Cost to make cushion, and attached to seat: $40 - 60, depending upon size

Stool itself is in stock in three different stores so no problem there. Stool is $47.99 which will be $50 with tax. We think natural oak color will be best with the natural leather, thus the lightness of the stool color will stand out when he's on stage under the single light singing to us.....Thud

Yes....Thud

Michael will take care of the staining & clear coating, which will need a few days to dry. It's humid here on the Isle of Cod...Haha

So....your mission, and you have chosen to accept it....Haha is to come up with the final verbage, design, etc for Taylor's seat...stool.

Here are some ideas I have either read on this thread or come up with or have been suggested to me:

RIM of cushion:   "New England Soul Patrol" - spelled out
"gift from" in smaller letters "New England Soul Patrol"
"Property of Taylor Hicks"
"Taylor Hicks Modern Whomp Tour"

SEAT:  "Modern Whomp"
"Property of Taylor Hicks"
"Modern Whomp" NESP logo*

*will see if we can get our logo on the stool. I can save it to CD and have artist download it - if he has that capability - not sure. Please someone direct me to where I can find it posted so I can print it tonight to take with tomorrow.*

COLOR: of verbage & design

I have no idea of cost of tatoo-ing or colors to be used but if anyone thinks a special color should be investigated please post, along with alternates....

Thanks everyone!
Huggy
I wonder if he will always call his music "Modern Whomp"? I'm
feeling like this gift will be really special and maybe we want to put
something about "Soul" on it as he may have it for a really long time.
Sorry to throw something else out midstream, but after reading the
book and thinking of him doing a slow acoustic ballad I'm not sure
Modern Whomp expresses the feeling if that makes any sense...
Liz,
makes perfect sense to me and even though I was the one originally pushing for the genres I've done a complete 180 on that.
Have spent a lot of time getting concert footage off the Dish receiver onto DVDs this past weekend and while watching the variety of artists was reminded just how musically versatile Taylor is so who knows where he will take his music in the future.

could go back to Soul Patrol as an option - have noticed he seems to have increased his usage of it lately even sneaking it into the Kentucky Speedway mic time - -  that seems to beg a pro/con discussion - - but anyway it seems he wants to keep the fan name going - - -

and we know he is very happy and proud to be on his first national tour so adding the year would make the stool a permanent reminder of this very special time in his life - -

edge suggestion:    Taylor Hicks - - Soul Patrol - - NESP - - 2007

seat suggestion:   It's all about the music !

or in keeping with Liz's idea of making this a gift that will always have meaning for him - - - perhaps he would appreciate the simplicity of his personal truth being the visible statement  - - -

edge:       Taylor Hicks  -    -   It's all about the music

seat:       NESP  2007

am sure this will be unpopular but since when has that stopped me - - I don't think NESP in any format should be made to stand out on the edge - - if it is highly visible it could conceivably put Taylor in an awkward position and defeat your purpose - -
if you were him and there were any fans from other sites having a problem with what to them might feel like him endorsing or advertising one specific group what would you do ? - stop using the stool maybe ?

do I really think anyone might make a stink about one fan group's name being highly visible ? ?
short answer -  unfortunately,  yes
Aging Hippie: Why do you think other groups would be upset?

It's not like they could have thought of it first.. I don't think anyone would be upset with a stool saying, for instance "Taylor is the Boogie" or "Taylor Made Soul"... I just don't get it.

"Taylor Hicks -- Soul Patrol -- NESP -- 2007" around the rim would be both personal to us and "all inclusive" at the same time.
Rim - NESP Stool of Sincerity

Top - Taylor Hicks 2007
He's worn underwear on his head that said TMS, and nobody complained... Haha
Oh jeez - guess I missed that one!!!
