When I asked Busy about the origins of the Soul Patrol name, this is what she gave me:
The Taylor's fans from the AI board started a thread entitled "The Gray Haired Guy". It was the first fastest moving thread. Of course that was deleted because we were breaking the rules. Then we started another thread which again was deleted. These threads were running over 50 pages. Me, Sheriff and Housewife desperately tried to keep the thread and the fans together, but we were not successful, we had to come up with a plan.
We were at the time also on another board, and on that board we decided that we would start a main thread and keep to the rules. The people that were involved in this were: myself, housewife (Lisa), thesheriff (Tammy), Gally, Humbletiger (Erica) and wiseguy (Joe).
But we needed a name. All the idols had cute names for their fans so why not us. So we went back to the AI board and did a poll. Several names were on this poll, names such as Hicks Chicks, Silver Foxes and of course wiseguy's pick of "The Soul Patrol." We all were voting on the name which was going to take a week or two to get all the votes in.
"The Soul Patrol" was doing well but it wasn't the official name, the voting had not ended. However, we wanted to start the main thread, so in the interim we used "The Soul Patrol" until a name was decided.
I was nominated to start the thread and post some basic rules:
Well that was all fine and dandy until Taylor's Brother came to the board and said that Taylor really liked the name, so of course at that point the voting didn't matter. Taylor liked it, so we kept it.
We were a few, the people mentioned above and also Vinny, Scarletbegonias and a few other people would post in the main thread often. We were just a few fans who loved the man. However once he screamed it out on AI, it became the MONSTER we all know and loved.
So the humble beginings of the Soul Patrol were not glamorous and not intended to be the phenomenon it became.
