Hi all,

I'm new on the board - and new to Rhode Island. I arrived Saturday for a new job in Providence. Can anyone help me with great things to see and visit.

My family thinks I'm really crazy - I got my tickets for Taylors Rhode Island concert before I had my hotel for this stay. I have my priorities. Haha

Thanx!!
You're not crazy - sounds like you'll fit right in here. We always buy our tickets first...

I'm sure that someone will jump in & welcome you to the great state of Rhode Island. I'll be visiting you on the 11th from the great state of Maine! Can't wait - it should be a fantastic time!
Welcome to NESP and to New England. I love RI and Providence is wonderful!

Was just there last weekend for a soccer tournament and I'll be spending the weekend of August 3 in Providence with my girlfriend.

The RI beaches are beautiful and a trip to Newport is a must. RI is so small that nothing is very far from Providence. Newport and the beaches, about 40 minutes. Providence Place downtown is a beautiful place to shop, and Federal Hill is a great place for Italian food. I've been told WaterFire is not to be missed. I haven't seen them yet, but I hope to http://www.waterfire.org/

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Lived & worked in Providence for years. The East Side is filled with gorgeous homes, and Thayer St is a great walk filled with little shops, and eateries.

Providence Place is really a neat place, shopping, eating...what more could you ask for? Haha

Point Judith, Aunt Carrie's for the Clam Cakes!
East Greenwich, 20 Water Street - waterside dining
Chelo's, many locations, E. Greenwich is on the water, good food

Newport is not to be missed! Tours of the mansions, beaches, shopping, and so much more.

Welcome to RI! We will see you on the 11th!
Woohoo
Welcome!! I have to add that Block Island is not to be missed. Go in
September to avoid all the tourists, yet still have shops open. It's a
small island, beautiful scenery and beaches. Quaint little town. Bring
a camera! You can bike all over the island if you're inclined. I'm hoping
to get back there myself soon. Highfive
Hi Bearie,

I grew up in Cranston, RI and was born in Providence. I would be happy to answer any RI questions you have. I know all of the good dentists, doctors, restaurants, locals' favorites, etc.

Everyone listed great recommendations for you. I would also add these:

Federal Hill - Providence
Roger Williams Park Zoo
Providence Riverwalk
Providence Performing Arts Center
Brown University - East Side Of Providence
RISD Museum
Trinity Reperatory Company - A Christmas Carol is a must see!
Newport - Brick Marketplace
Lunch at Brick Alley Pub
Narragansett Beaches and Point Judith
Newport Jazz Festival
Bristol 4th of July Parade

This is such a cool thread. Maybe someday we'll be big enough to
write "A Soulful New England" with tips about all our states-off the
beaten path cool stuff as well as not to miss tourist attractions Highfive

I can just picture this with cool pics and quotes from Taylor and other
favorite souls...Heart
WOW what a great response. I can hardly wait to meet everyone. I got in Saturday and walked around Providence. I'm staying at the Hilton in the "arts" district - and loved everything I saw!!! Now with all these great suggestions I will be doing more looking this weekend!!!

Thanx again,
bearie (Barbara)
Welcome! You have enough great suggestions to keep you busy until Taylor comes to town, lol.
I almost forgot Goddard Park in Warwick or E. Greenwich.

Wickford is a very cool town, lots of history, little shops, waterfront area with benches for seating....and a bakery on the left side of Main St. Usually a summer art festival but I don't know when it is....lots of fun; artist paintings, music, very nice.

Matunick beaches are great!

Heading up 146 North towards Woonsocket is Diamond Hill Winery (on Rte 114 I think - Diamond Hill Rd); good selection of local wines, tour of winery, wine gifts, samples.
