Hey all I am new to this board and would love to be involved...after going to their website I still have a few questions. I want to order like 50 calendars but since I will be ordering through my business I would like to find out some more information for tax purposes.

Is KOPS a non-profit or for profit business?

I know they work with Kid One who has a 501(3)c on file with the IRS but does Kid One have one as well?

Will there be an invoice with the non-profits EIN (Employer Identification Number) listed with each order so all donations can be reported to the IRS next year for our 2007 tax return?

KOPS has posted that 100% of Donations and sales will go to Kid One, that's great! But much money is needed to organize a fund raiser.... does KOPS use any of those donations for administrative costs? If they don't then who sponsors the projects?

I could not find a business license or registration in the state of Alabama government site under KOPS's name, is it licensed in another state? No business address or phone is listed on your website.

Some of this stuff may also be wondered by other soul patrollers. This is all I need to know and then I can place my order. Can't wait for the calendar.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Shannon!

Thank you for your interest in KOPS.  We hope the following answers will help you in your search.  We had these answers ready for you in the PM you sent me at one of the other sites you posted on, so we'll just post it here as well.

Here are my questions.

You guys have done great work...I would like to order 50 calendars my niece has a Taylor fan club at her new school. But since I will be ordering through my business I have to clarify some tax information. I have tried to learn more about your organization but there is no Mission Statement or Business address or phone number for contact on your site. Just need to know a few things.

Is KOPS a non-profit or for profit organization?

KOPS is a group of Soul Patrol members who volunteer their time, talents and resources to help raise money and awareness for Kid One Transport.  We make no profit, but we are not a declared non profit organization.  All money raised goes to benefit Kid One.

Quote:
Is KOPS a registered and licensed business in the state of Alabama?

No, we are not registered or a licensed business in the state of Alabama. Our group is made up of Soul Patrol members from all over the United States.  Kid One is based in Alabama.

Quote:
I know KOPS donates to Kid One who has a 501(3)c on file with the IRS does KOPS have one as well?

First, no we do not, as a group, donate funds to Kid One. Money raised for Kid One is raised by members of the Soul Patrol and is turned over to Kid One.  Because KOPS is not a non-profit organization and because KOPS does not employ its members, no salaries are paid and no earnings made, we are not required to file a 501( c ) 3 with the IRS. Kid One is a non-profit organization, therefore they do have a 501( c ) 3 status.  You did mean 501 ( c ) 3, correct?

Quote:
With each calendar sold will it include a invoice with the non-profit's EIN(Employer Identification Number)for tax purposes?

When a receipt is given for any tax deductible donation, the EIN is usually not on the receipt.  The calendars will be sold from the Kid One site and you will receive a receipt from Kid One once your purchase has been made.  KOPS will not be handling any of the money from the sales of these calendars, it goes directly to Kid One.  Since you are receiving goods, your purchase of the calendars is not tax deductible.  The only time you would receive a tax donation letter from Kid One is when a monetary donation is made.

Quote:
KOPS states it gives 100% of all donations to Kid One.

That is not accurate - KOPS does not collect donations for Kid One.  Anyone that wants to donate to Kid One is directed to the Kid One Transport site (http://www.kidone.org). What we state is 100% of the proceeds made from every project we do for Kid One goes to benefit Kid One Transport. Kid One understands and encourages KOPS to set aside some of the funds that will be needed for an upcoming project. An example of this is the cookbook project. A portion of the funds raised by the Soul Patrol and collected by Kid One, will be set aside to pay for the deposit for the calendar.  Without doing this, we would be unable to do the project. So as you can see, all the money raised by the Soul Patrol goes to benefit Kid One in the end.

Quote:
Does KOPS use any of these donations or funds collected from projects on KOPS's own administrative costs?

No. There are no administrative costs charged to members or supporters. The KOPS members are strictly volunteers.  The only administrative cost we incur is to run the website which is paid for out of my own pocket.

Quote:
If not then how are the projects funded and who are the sponsors?

Projects are funded from money collected from pre-sales - by preselling a product such as the cookbook for example, we are able to collect funds ahead of time so we are able to pay any bills that are due.  I'm not quite sure what you mean by sponsors. If you mean do we have any sponsors such as Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Red Cross, or any other business who provides us with any funding, then no, we do not.  If you mean do we or have we had sponsors who have paid for a service, such as an ad in the cookbook or calendar, then, yes.  The funds generated from sponsorship ads, for example, go to reduce the printing costs allowing more money to go directly to Kid One.

I will try to go to the SBA (Alabama Chapter), the BBB, the state government site, as well as the IRS to see what I can find on my own.

Please feel free to do so. But because we are not a business or a registered non profit organization, nor do we need to be, there will not be any record of KOPS there.

Thank you so much for your interest in the KOPS organization! We hope you will check out the KOPS site and join in on the projects we are currently running for Kid One!  Besides the cookbook and calendar, we have several projects in the works that will not only be fun to be a part of, but fun for the Soul Patrol as well - while at the same time helping to provide funding for Kid One.  Let us know if you have any other questions!  Because we are very protective of KOPS and Kid One we are very careful that everything we do involving them  is above board- we are an open book!!!!
Thank you for your support!

You're right LeAnn, someone has to examine and study these photos to make sure they are the best for the calendar. Ahhhh....the sacrifices made! I think I keep drooling on my keyboard though!!!! Thud

Haha - that's why I keep a roll of paper towels on my desk! The Soul Patrol memebers have taken some amazing pictures, though. What's funny, is I never - not one concert - have taken a camera, so it is fun to relive memories of those concerts through others pics.

Thank you Karen for your response, great idea once again and I can't wait to see the final product. When I asked about sponsors I meant by for profit companies (Microsoft, At&T, Goolge, etc...) Make-A-Wish and Red Cross are non-profit organizations.

I will be going to the Kid One site to make my pre-order. Thanks, they are for my nieces "little Soul Patrollers" group at her new school.

Glad we were able to answer your questions for you. Let us know if you have any other questions... Oh - and yes, Make-a-Wish and Red Cross are non-profits, but they do help out charities other than themselves - they are wonderful organizations! Take care, LeAnn

And I'm willing to make that sacrifice right along with you ladies.

But seriously, this is going to be a great calendar to benefit a GREAT cause, Kid One! Everybody needs one!
