To post a full size pic:

You need a Photobucket account or a similar photo image storing account online (it's free).  Go to http://www.photobucket.com and open an account and upload your pics from your computer.  

Then when you post a reply, click on the little square above the text box with the mountain and orange sun.  A pop-up box will appear where you need to type in the URL of the pic you want from Photobucket.  The URL will be listed under each picture you store: click on the box labeled "Direct Link" to copy the code. After you type in the URL, click enter and it will appear in your post as [IMG]........[IMG]. When you view your post, your pic appears!  (If you see a tiny red "x" it means you made a mistake with the URL.)

Alternately, skip the part with the mountain/sun box thing and just copy the IMG code from the four options Photobucket gives you, and paste it directly into the post.

I cannot figure out how to post an avatar!!!!! pls help?

Go to the User CP at the top of the page where the welcome is. Click on that. The next screen will have "Your Profile" on the left and you'll see Change Avatar. Upload your avatar from your computer. The file can be no larger than 120x120 pixels and no larger than 25 KB.

Thanks for that tutorial, mari -- now if I could only find one to teach me how to then copy those photos -- not the link in a blog/page, I'd be a happy camper.
