Often referred to as the “Motown of the South”, Stax recording studio is alive again!
- - - - -
The legendary Memphis label — home to the likes of Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Rufus and Carla Thomas, the Staple Singers, Eddie Floyd, Johnnie Taylor and The Bar-Kays — kicked off a busy schedule of reissues and new releases with Interpretations: Celebrating the Music of Earth, Wind & Fire, a star-studded tribute to Maurice White, who paired up stars with his band’s classic songs.

When Taylor takes the stage in a special appearance with Earth, Wind and Fire, he will celebrate his roots in Southern Soul Music in the finest tradition.

those of you who are Graycharles alumni from way back will remember the conversations about the places we wished Taylor would record - - Stax was one of the top choices along with Muscle Shoals which is also still in operation [ Carrie recorded  Before He Cheats there btw ] - - and of course the offer of the Ray Charles' studio

the Stax t-shirt, EW&F, and a whole lot of wishing - - that's the stuff rumors are made of right ?  Grin

Here is a very nice tid bit from the Stax website link in the Boogie write up

The Stax/Volt Revue Live In Norway 1967 includes a wealth of staggering performances from start to finish. Otis Redding delivers jaw-dropping versions of “Shake,” “Satisfaction,” the only known filmed concert performance of “Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song)” and a six-minute version of “Try A Little Tenderness” in which he comes back for four encores. Sam & Dave show why they were nicknamed “Double Dynamite,” with powerful performances of “Hold On! I’m Comin’,” “When Something Is Wrong With My Baby” and a chilling version of “You Don’t Know Like I Know.” Other highlights include Booker T & The MGs’ scorching rendition of “Green Onions,” Arthur Conley’s definitive version of his big hit “Sweet Soul Music,” . . . . . . . .

there's more - - -  cannot wait to get my hands on this DVD

Well this certainly is very interesting news! As you said Linda - a whole lot of wishing! Taylor getting to open for EW&F could be a very good indicator...but rumors are just that.
