If you ever do the entire "Try A Little Tenderness," how about the entire "Let's Get It On"?
:Thud:
I think that this would be a neat song, probably a bit premature at THIS stage in the game, but possibly a few years down the line, and please keep this song in mind, especially at the last concert of the year...
This would probably be an acoustic song and possibly a even a "stool" song, but Frank Sinatra's "My Way"...
And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.
{The previous stanza is the reason why I think that this song should be one of the final songs of the last concert of the year}
I've lived a life that's full.
I've traveled each and ev'ry highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
{Taylor has had a VERY full life so far, but I know that the road still has a LONG way to go
}
Regrets, I've had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.
To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
" Oh no, oh no not me,
I did it my way".
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

Perfect song for Taylor.
I've always loved the words to this song.
There is a Frank Sinatra version and Elvis version, correct?

There is another song that I THINK Taylor COULD do, as another closing song at the final concert of the season...
It is called "Once Before I Go" which was written by the late, great Australian singer-songwriter Peter Allen...
But as much as I love the lyrics, and the melody, it might be a little too "POPPY" for Taylor...
Here is a video of the song from YouTube, from the Broadway musical "The Boy From Oz" with Hugh Jackman singing: Once Before I Go
This was the next to last song in the show, and after a good 1 minute pause, there was always at least a 2 minute standing ovation...
Here are the lyrics:
Once before I go
I want you to know
That I would do it all again
I'm sure I'd make the same mistakes
But I could make it through
The pains and joys and aches
I knew back then
I'd do it all
I'd do it all again
Before I go
I want you to know
That I look back with no regrets
And when our luck was wearin' thin
And we were down and out
We still came back to win agains all bets
Now when I look back
I still have no regrets
And it's so hard to say good-byes
When there's so much that's left
Unspoken in your eyes
But unless I spread my wings again
I'm afraid I'll never soar
So hang on to the mem'ries
And hold me close once more
Once more
Just once before I go
I want you to know
That I have loved you all along
And even when we're far apart
I only need to feel you're living in my heart
And I'll be strong
Love you just the way
I've loved you all along
And it's so hard to say good-byes
When there's so much that's left
Unspoken in your eyes
But unless I spread my wings again
I'm afraid I'll never soar
So kiss me for the last time
And hold me close once more
Once more
Just once before I go
I want you to know
That I have loved you all along
And even when we're far apart
I only need to feel you're living in my heart
And I'll be strong
You are the light that shines on me
You always were and you'll always be
So I had to let you know
Just this once
Just this once

Yup. There are songs, and then there are SONGS!
Some have words that are just beyond perfection...like I tell my kids -"some songs are frickin' poetry"!- "That's frickin' poetry right there"

Mary - I'd probably be in tears! What beautiful lyrics.

I am in tears just reading those lyrics. I can't image what I would do if Taylor sang them. Probably be a blubbering idiot (not that I am not already when Taylor sings, like when he did Same Auld Lang Syne).
