OK I'm applying for a job with a middleschool in town, a secretary position. In order to apply you have to do the following! YUCK for someone who can't think of anything to write and is HORRIBLE at this kind of stuff! Any ideas and or suggestions on this topic I would REALLY appreciate it!!!
1. List an important problem facing American Education today and describe how you would address this problem in the position for which you are applying.
Long Essay (Answer limited to 4000 characters, including spaces)

PS anyone who just wants to write it for me I will ask Taylor to kiss you the next time we M&G!!

:haha:

:haha:

Hi Gina,
Writing about the shortage of money or teachers would be great. I would think that would show not only your interest in what’s best for the kids but that you are thinking of their future.
As for needing more teachers you could talk about how being an influence to young people now and making education a fun and meaningful experience would make them more interested in being a teacher or at least looking at that as a possible job. Maybe writing about your reason for becoming a teacher. There were some teachers who were a huge influence in my life and helped me a lot. They didn't make me want to become a teacher but they made me more interested in learning.
Hope this helps. Sorry for going on and on and all the really bad grammar but I haven't had my coffee yet.
Alicia
They make you write an essay to be a secretary? Good lord, my brother-in-law just got a position as a TA with absolutely no qualifications except having gone to college (majored in Econ), and all he had to do was show up!
Okay, let's see if I can be helpful. One of the problems I've noticed is that some children are not being taught manners and respect by their parents. As a secretary, you could encourage them to ask for things (like bus passes or whatever) nicely and thereby help them become better students and future contributing members of society.
I'd stay away from any topic involving money and the more efficient spending thereof; after all, you might want a raise someday!

I am not able to think of anything especially helpful but I, too, think it is strange to require this of applicants. And not to be negative about the position, but is the person who thought this up going to be your boss? If so, they seem like a "jump through hoops" type of person.
Good suggestions everyone! It does seem odd at first, but maybe they want to see spelling, grammar, etc. as she would be typing correspondance for them, etc. Maybe saying something about how overworked teachers are and how a secretary could help with some of the paperwork? As a former teacher (and it was just afterschool and preschool so we didn't have half the red tape as classroom teachers) I know all the documentation can be overwhelming. Good luck Gina!!
Mari, maybe you can proof it for her?

Liz is right. Stacey could definitely help you with that!
Woohoo - Soul Patrol helping another member get a job! How cool is this?

Maybe Liz is right about the grammar, spelling part. I had not thought of that. So, my suggestion is along the lines of liason between home and school (if this is part of the job?). If I were to write the essay, I would conjure up a story of the dear school secretary of my past who was our mentor and guide, lending a hand to teachers, staff, students, parents and the community as a whole. Befriending the friendless, helping the helpless, a model of hard work and good community values. The shining beacon that guided us all in dark times. Well, you get my drift.
P.S. Our school secretary was a real witch so it would be fiction, but what the heck, you need a job, right?
Duff, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing.

Our school secretaries also had a bit of Lucifer in them...
I would be happy to proofread anything, I need to get some experience at it so I can someday turn it into one of those nice work-from-home jobs.

This question seems to appear on all the jobs, well except for lunch aides!
I keep trying to figure out how to work from home and get paid but that ain't happenen so we'll give this a shot!
THANKS for all those suggestions! Love yours Duff!
