I thought that a discussion on some of your favorite Broadway plays and musicals would be interesting.I absolutely adore Broadway musicals, some of my favorites are Phanthom Of The Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar,Menopause,West Side Story, just to name a few. Each one of these musical scores floors me every time I hear them,so much so that I still listen to them on a regular basis. So what are some of everyone's favorites and why? Smile Smile
Fiddler on the Roof is one of my favorites
The Man of La Mancha!
TayBea & bearie........Those are both great choices.I saw Man Of La Mancha at a local theater many years ago.I wanted to see Fiddler On The Roof but never had the opportunity to.
I'm trying to think if I've ever seen a Broadway caliber show...guess maybe a local production of Grease is about as close as it gets!

I did see a Gilbert & Sullivan production a couple of years back but I cannot remember the title of it.

Never have come close to a Broadway stage yet - yet being the operative word. I do intend to make it happen.
Ooooh cannot forget Les Miserables!

I also saw Man of La Mancha at a local theater last year. It was great. I also read the book when I was a teen. Good story.
Oh, when it comes to Broadway, I am your girl!!!
It is REALLY nice when I live only 75 minutes away from NYC, and go see shows on a scarily-frequent basis...
Or at least I did until a certain gray-haired BEHM came my way Grin as I have only seen 1 or 2 shows this year, as opposed to my usual 5 or 6, which is on the low side...

I have seen so many shows, it is not funny, and several of them I  have seen numerous times, too! 1776, The Boy From Oz, Chicago, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Spamalot, Gypsy, Sweeney Todd, Fosse, Aida, The Lion King, Beauty & the Beast, Jekyll & Hyde, Assassins, The Rocky Horror Show, Bat Boy: the Musical, The Civil War, The Pirates of Penzance, The Three Penny Opera, All Shook Up, Les Miserables, and the list goes on...

It would be fun if we got together some time next year when the weather is nice and did a field trip to NYC for a show...

Hey, AmyRebo: what was the Gilbert & Sullivan show about?
I grew up on G&S, and know most of them, though I have not seen all of them...
Marymag...
We're you in the drama club as well, when you were in High School?Smile
Actually, TayBea, I did not belong to the Drama Club, though I WAS in a production of "The King & I" as a chorus member, and had a blast... Smile

MAJORLY off-topic, though not really:
Unfortunately, I felt like I never fit in anywhere at school, and was incredibly shy, not to mention extremely self-conscious, which is never a good combination... Sad
I was strong enough to withstand any peer pressure, though that was more due to the fact that I really did not have friends, BY CHOICE...
My friends were the teachers, who were far more important to me, as I could not care less about the kids I went to school with...

I remember in 7th grade English, we had to write a "letter" to a celebrity (which never got mailed BTW)... While everyone else was writing their letters to Madonna, Duran Duran, Freddy Goes to Hollywood, Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Kevin Bacon, or whomever was popular back in 1984-1985, I wrote a letter to George Morris (who is/was an Olympic-level equestrian {horseback rider}), of whom my teacher had to ask "Who is this person?" so I also to wrote one to Jason Robards, the actor...
Hmmm, if that did not set me apart from the other kids, I do not know what would!!!

If anyone knows the movie "The Breakfast Club" I was basically a cross of of the characters that Ally Sheedy & Judd Nelson portrayed, along with a bit of 'Martha Dumptruck' from the incredible movie "Heathers" with Winona Ryder & Christian Slater thrown in, and both 'Romy' & 'Michelle' of "Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion" fame...

The only thing I joined while in school was the High School Bowl team, which was basically a "Jeopardy!"-type club (but one does NOT have to answer in a question)... There was also a TV show on one of our local channels, (WTNH in CT) and all of the high schools tried out to be on the show, and in my senior year, we made it! Unfortunately, it was the only show we were on, but we were on state-wide TV, as far as I know...

Getting back on track again, Grin I have always loved Broadway...
I think what got me to be such a Broadway fan is the fact that the musical "ANNIE" opened on Broadway on my birthday (4/21) in 1977, which got its start at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT... http://www.goodspeed.org/default.aspx

Not only that, the dog who portrayed Sandy, was mere HOURS away from meeting its end at the local dog-pound when someone located him/her...

But I remember listening and watching FoxNews at 10pm (yes, I was still awake at that hour when I was in elementary school) that the directors needed girls to be in "ANNIE" and there were open calls for auditions... So I asked Mom & Dad if we could go, but they kept saying 'No'...

Do not forget that this was when Times Square was REALLY dangerous, even in the daytime, due to all of the hookers, strippers, drugs, and whatnot, so in retrospect, I do not blame Mom & Dad at all for saying "No"...

I saw 20 Broadway shows during Y2K, though I did see several shows more than one time, with "Jesus Christ Superstar" being the main culprit, with 5 shows, in 5 months...

That sounds so much like myself in school.  I didn't really fit in to any group at school,  actually no one really noticed me because I was so quiet and shy.  I did get good grades though and stayed out of trouble.
The few friends I did have were kinda social outcasts like myself.
Sounds like you grew up in my era.  I graduated High school in 1984.

You mentioned the Breakfast Club....what a classic.  It's so good at portraying the different classes and stereotypes. I wasn't in any one group like the jocks,  druggies...etc.  I probably was a combination of the Ally Sheedy character, but not that weird!
