If this had been the next broadway role....
Yesterday, at about the same time we were all waiting patiently for Taylor's "big announcement", I saw this news item about a show coming to Broadway and thought to myself "Now that's a Broadway project I would enjoy for Taylor.."

Quote:‘Million Dollar Quartet’ Names New York Cast

The principal foursome from the Chicago production of the musical “Million Dollar Quartet” will reprise their roles when it transfers to Broadway, the show’s producers said on Thursday. The musical, about a 1956 session that brought together four of the biggest names in rock ’n’ roll, will star Eddie Clendening (as Elvis Presley), Lance Guest (Johnny Cash), Levi Kreis (Jerry Lee Lewis) and Rob Lyons (Carl Perkins), all making their Broadway debuts. Added to the cast are Hunter Foster (of “Urinetown” and “Little Shop of Horrors”), who will be playing the Sun Records producer Sam Phillips, and Elizabeth Stanley (Broadway’s “Cry-Baby,” “Company”) who will play Elvis’s girlfriend, Dyanne. With songs like “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” it is to begin previews on March 13 at the Nederlander Theater and open on April 11.

Taylor as Elvis? A bit farfetched, but I could think of worse things he could do.
And you know you'd buy a ticket.

Oh no, I could seriously see that. And I think that role would be much more palatable to his fans. I think the adverse reaction to his Grease role was much more the role itself than Broadway. At least for me it was. Wink

Soul to me is a feeling, a lot of depth and being able to bring to the surface that which is happening inside, to make the picture clear. The song doesn't matter. It's just the emotion, the way it affects other people. - Aretha Franklin

Nope. A radio station said Taylor would be talking about a "new project." It was just the release of WATW. Not new to us current fans, but new to others. Wink

Grease itself was certainly the major negative for me ... haven't made a secret of the fact that I disliked it (and it's message) long before TH came along. That particular production didn't help either .. sort of like pouring cheese whiz over kraft singles.
In the real world I seriously doubt a cameo bit singing a song makes anyone an actor in the eyes of a casting director. (ducks rotten tomatoes)
Something like Margaux's suggestion or "Rock of Ages" (play Constantine is doing) is a whole other animal.

As to the big announcement . . was anyone truly surprised that it was WATW ?
Tricia made a good point on twitter . . . it was news to everyone outside the TH online bubble.

As much as I make fun of him for his pronouncements, this one was a good play - which I realized once I gave myself a minute to get over how he had sucked me in again. Haha From a PR perspective it was perfect. The big question we hear all the time, "What has Taylor Hicks done lately?" Well, he's got a "new project." Odd that it was on some random San Diego radio station when he wasn't in the city or isn't planning to be. shifty
