New Music Special: Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam 2006 DVD w/very special guest
Warren Haynes Presents: Benefit Concert Volume 8 DVD
Warren Haynes

Recorded live at Warren Haynes 18th Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, NC on December 16th, 2006 at the Asheville Civic Center, The Benefit Concert Volume 8 is the third release in an on-going series documenting the annual concerts. As with each previous benefit, all proceeds from this series of concerts and CD and DVD releases benefit Habitat For Humanity, an international non-profit organization dedicated to building housing for those in need of shelter.

The 2006 concert saw Warren Haynes put together a stellar lineup of musicians featuring Gov't Mule, Dave Matthews, The New Orleans Social Club, Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, The Taj Mahal Trio and The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic. Warren Haynes also welcomed very special guests Randall Bramblett, Taylor Hicks, Branford Marsalis, Mike Barnes, Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson & Family), Brendan Bayliss (Umphrey's McGee), Kevn Kinney (Drivin N Cryin), Robert Kearns (The Bottle Rockets) and Dave Schools (Widespread Panic).

The Benefit Concert Volume 8 offers more than 3 hours of incredible music from The New Orleans Social Club's version of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" featuring Branford Marsalis to Gov't Mule and Dave Mathews' scorching cover of Neil Young's "Cortez The Killer" to the all-star "I Shall Be Released" finale

Taylor Hicks was among the very special guests and is featured on these tracks:
Fortunate Son - New Orleans Social Club w/ Branford Marsalis, Warren Haynes & Taylor Hicks
Walkin' To New Orleans - The New Orleans Social Club w/ Branford Marsalis, Mickey Raphael, John Popper & Taylor Hicks
I Shall Be Released - Gov't Mule w/ Marty Stuart, Kevn Kinney, Taylor Hicks, Mike Barnes, Ivan Neville, Brendan Bayliss, Mickey Raphael & Robert Kearns

RE: New Music Special: Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam 2006 DVD w/very special guest
The main concert was on Dish Network's now defunct RAVE high def channel and the DVD will be worth every penny of it's cost..

From another piece I saw the DVD supposedly has the extra material from the Pre-jam at the Orange Peel the night before - that is just the cherry on top. Marty Stuart and his band were absolutely fantastic in the audio and he included Taylor in his banter in that so it may be on the DVD. Something about Marty telling his wife that he had to go right back out on the road to play with Warren for the Jam.

This year will be the 20th anniversary of the Christmas Jam concert to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. Warren Haynes has promised it will be one hell of a party. Without even knowing the line up it is sounding worth booking a flight to Asheville.

As soon as I put the link up this morning, I ordered the DVD. With "slow" shipping, it's less than $20, I'm sure it will be well worth it.
